Smart performer who edged out Gracious John to take the 6f sprint final at Lingfield on Good Friday. Likely to be finishing well from off a strong early pace, and showed his well-being when a runner up in Listed company latest.

A winner of six races (4 from 15 on the AW), but yet to prove he can compete from such an elevated mark. Feasible that he'll be stronger now after a couple of recent starts, but truthfully, he'll need to be.

Hasn't won since February 2017 (5f at Lingfield), but has a decent enough AW strike rate (5 from 22). Tries a new headgear combination, and finished in the frame on his last visit to Wolverhampton (Class 2). Inside draw not ideal.

Fast improving synthetics performer who appeared all set to make it 3 from 3 on Tapeta in a FTQ Conditions Stakes at Newcastle last month (5f) before being nabbed late by Caspian Prince. Should be on the premises from the same mark.

Talented performer on both turf and AW, but hasn't quite been at his best for a number of starts now. Back from a spell in the Dubai sunshine, and on a fair mark if that overseas trip has perked him up somewhat.

A runner up on each of his last two starts on Polytrack at Chelmsford (5f) and Lingfield (6f). Inching slowly up the weights as a result, but his Chelmsford effort in particular behind the California bound Udontdodou gives him a definite shout.

Not so strong latest over 6f in a Kempton Conditions Stakes, but his previous C&D second to Gracious John (beaten a short-head) shows he's capable when on song. No doubting this is his ideal trip, and breaks from a decent draw in stall 3.

Hasn't won for quite some time (June 2016), but is holding his form well, and is closely matched with Gracious John and Tomily (C&D in December), and also Atletico (5f at Newcastle in November). Generally solid over this C&D.

Has fallen steadily in the weights over the course of the past 12 months, and is down 10lb since February 2017. A couple of his AW successes have come on Fibresand at Southwell, so he's probably a horse to watch there more than anywhere else.

Winner of a Group 3 race in Turkey for Richard Hannon in September 2015 he moved onto Robert Cowell, for whom he scored on AW debut at Kempton in October (5f). Sold for 42,000 gns since, he returns respected for a new trainer following wind surgery.

Forecasts

Atletico (13/8), Kimberella (10/3), Royal Birth (7/1), Gracious John (8/1), Tomily (9/1), Doctor Sardonicus (10/1), Bowson Fred (10/1), Boom The Groom (14/1), Line Of Reason (20/1), Orvar (25/1), Poyle Vinnie (33/1)

Verdict

An intriguing high quality sprint handicap which would be worthy of top billing on a Saturday afternoon AW fixture, let alone late on a Saturday Evening. Kimberella is an obvious focal point, and turf or AW, it all comes alike to him granted a fierce early pace for which to take aim at from mid race. He's definite short-list material following an excellent effort behind Kachy in a Listed contest latest. Stuart Williams saddles Royal Birth, and whilst his inside draw mightn't be ideal, he could represent some each-way value at a track which seems to suit, whilst Orvar is a bit of an unknown quantity following wind surgery. He debuts for Paul Midgley after being sold by previous trainer Robert Cowell for 42,000 gns. However, the best advice is to row in with the fast improving six-year-old ATLETICO. He was mugged close home in a Fast Track Qualifier at Newcastle last month (Conditions Stakes), otherwise he would have arrived sporting a perfect 3 from 3 record on synthetics. Racing off the same handicap mark tonight, he's taken to record a second career Wolverhampton success.
