Scored at York and Ascot on turf this autumn but hasn't shown much in three previous start on the A/W so this might be a tough task carrying top weight. Others are preferred on this occasion.

Has faced some very stiff tasks on turf this season and not surprisingly found the going tough. Fallen back to his last winning A/W mark though, so not without hope here at what appears to be his optimum trip.

Connections reach for the first-time visor which might sharpen this gelding. Not a lot to write home about though on his recent return to the A/W and looks to have it all to do off the same handicap mark.

Had a recent pipe-opener and only 2lb higher than his third course victory last March. Seems to really like this track, and jockey booking is a plus, so any market support for this northern raider would boost confidence.

Has won 15 times on the A/W but is very much into the veteran stage now and it would be a surprise if he is sharp enough to score here after an absence of 184 days. Impossible to completely rule out but has plenty to do.

Has found trouble in running on both recent starts but may have gone close on each occasion with a clear passage. 1lb lower than last winning mark so fits the bill and should be there or thereabouts if avoiding traffic this time.

Won over C&D two weeks ago but was well held last week off a higher mark. Needs to find more to get involved in what appears a hotter race this time.

16 months since her last win and handicapper proving slow to release his grip. Not beaten far on most recent start but needs to find an extra gear after an 11 race losing streak.

Interesting contender who is 2-2 on the A/W and has been in fine form on the turf throughout this year, running third in a big field at Doncaster recently. At the right end of the weights and has plenty going for him.

In the doldrums for a long time until a recent revival when placing on her last two starts, both on the A/W. Seems in good heart and handicapped to run well if continuing the improvement.

Seems best at 6f and his on a long losing run stretching back 17 months. Has scored here four times in the past (including over C&D) so cannot be ruled out, but needs to turn over a new leaf given recent modest runs.

Verdict

PASTIME is the least exposed horse in the field on this surface and has the profile of a potential improver this winter. Winner of both his starts on the sand, he comes here having run well again on turf last time out. Qaffaal is another who likes this surface and looks to have been prepared for this so should be very much on the premis. Fellow northern raider Steel Train may run better than his recent form figures suggest, while Shyron is a definite player if getting a clear run having found plenty of trouble in his last two outings.
