Potters Story23
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-12| J: James Bowen(3)| T: P & M Bowen| OR:  125
25/1
Beaten 74L over C&D last time out and despite collecting some fair form in bumpers/novice hurdles, he probably needs it softer.
2
Horse silk
Melrose Boy309
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-10| J: Kieron Edgar(3)| T: H Fry| OR:  123
11/4
Lightly-raced gelding who makes his handicap debut here having run good races in three maiden/novice events including behind the promising River Wylde at Ludlow. Off since January but should have plenty more to offer off this opening handicap mark.
3
Horse silk
Oski42
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-9| J: Max Kendrick(6)| T: B I Case| OR:  122
20/1
Makes his handicap debut here having gotten off the mark in a minor maiden at Uttoxeter last time out. Useful bumper performer prior to that and not impossible he could progress to get involved here.
4
Horse silk
Buckle Streetp,t23
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-8| J: C Gethings| T: M Keighley| OR:  121
14/1
On the same mark as when well-beaten in a similar race to this over C&D last month. Has some nice form from his novice campaign but seems held on that evidence and wouldn't want it any softer.
6
Horse silk
Rebel Yeats15
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-7| J: Edward Austin(10)| T: Ian Williams| OR:  120
16/1
A winner at Warwick in late September but failed to build on that at Ascot last time out. Is much higher in the weights than at the time of that win and may be held by the handicapper for now.
7
Horse silk
Tynecastle Park28
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-7| J: Fergus Gregory(5)| T: R Eddery| OR:  120
28/1
Makes his first start in a handicap hurdle having run well in second at Kempton when last seen. This opening mark may prove a little high based on what he's shown but he seems progressive.
8
Horse silk
Tarrona230
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-7| J: Stan Sheppard| T: A Phillips| OR:  120
50/1
Made a promising handicap debut at Hereford before faring okay prior to falling at Ludlow last time out. Those were much weaker affairs though and he probably wants it softer.
9
Horse silk
Another Frontierp121
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-6| J: Jamie Bargary(3)| T: N A Twiston-Davies| OR:  119
11/1
Has run some good races in decent handicap hurdles but has won just the once and probably needs it softer than it's likely to be here. Cheekpieces on.
10
Horse silk
Lip Serviceh,t1217
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-6| J: R Patrick| T: F O'Brien| OR:  119
10/1
Lightly-raced for his age, remains a maiden over hurdles and reverts to the smaller obstacles having been running well over fences recently, and having his first start for this trainer.
11
Horse silk
Wylde Magic19
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-5| J: Mitchell Bastyan(3)| T: Evan Williams| OR:  118| BF
7/2
Yet to get off the mark over hurdles but ran a very good race to finish third in a Grade 3 at Sandown earlier in the year off 2lb lower. This is highly competitive but he could hit the frame again.
14
Horse silk
Maguire's Glen26
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-2| J: M Hamill| T: G Harris| OR:  115
33/1
A winner at Newton Abbott two starts ago but pulled-up off 10lb higher at Exeter latest. Three of his four wins have come on heavy ground (exception yielding to soft), so almost certainly needs it more testing.
15
Horse silk
Cottersrockb,t23
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-2| J: Harry Stock(6)| T: M Keighley| OR:  115| D
14/1
Has been a useful performer on his day and has certainly been aiming high recently, but more letters than numbers in his form mean he is difficult to build a case for.
16
Horse silk
Bye Bye O Byet14
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-0| J: Liam Gilligan(7)| T: Michael C Griffin| OR:  113| D
25/1
Useful handicapper on his day but getting on now and may find some of the more progressive types here too much to handle, especially as he's generally better over further nowadays.
17
Horse silk
Atlantic Grey18
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-13| J: Tom Humphries(8)| T: N A Twiston-Davies| OR:  112
9/1
Fairly inexperienced with just the two runs over hurdles so far, but he has acquitted himself fairly well so far. May be caught out for lack of practice here, especially in the big field.
18
Horse silk
Gran Maestrov19
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-13| J: Charlie Deutsch| T: P Winks| OR:  112
66/1
No win since July 2015 (has switched stables since), and difficult to fancy down just 1lb for a heavy defeat in a weaker race at Chepstow last time.
20
Horse silk
Cornish Warrior30
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-11| J: Harry Reed(6)| T: N P Mulholland| OR:  110
20/1
Returned after a summer break with just a fair performance in sixth at Wincanton last time out, and was well-beaten by Sunnytahliateigan prior to that. Probably set for a minor role off just 2lb lower.
21
Horse silk
Sheer Poetryt33
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-9| J: Mr Robert Hawker(3)| T: R Woollacott| OR:  108| D
40/1
Reverts to hurdles after getting off the mark over hudles at a fair price at Worcester last time. Rated 3lb higher over the smaller obstacles but would still be well treated on the basis of that piece of form.
22
Horse silk
Charlie's Charm37
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-9| J: Jack Sherwood| T: G P Cromwell| OR:  108
33/1
Six race maiden who is yet to finish within 10L of a winner and should find this mark too steep on his first start in handicap company.
24
Horse silk
Lambs Lane45
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-7| J: J P O'Sullivan(5)| T: P J Rothwell| OR:  106
50/1
Dead-heated in a Kilbeggan bumper in April but only poor form since, including since switched to handicap company the last twice (form figures in that sphere read P7).

Verdict

A predictably tricky handicap hurdle to solve with just the 24 runners declared, but UNDEFINED BEAUTY looks of most interest. Never out of the front two in three runs since joining Olly Murphy, this hat-trick seeker has been raised another 10lb but probably had more in hand at Sedgefield last time out than the official winning margin suggests, and this progressive contender could get his head in front again here in conditions which should suit. He is just preferred to Sunnytahliateigan, who ran a great race in second last time out and should be able to progress further if putting in a more professional performance in the closing stages, while the unexposed Melrose Boy could have a say if overcoming an absence since January. Rebel Yeats and Black Ivory are others with claims.
  1. Undefined Beauty
  2. Sunnytahliateigan
  3. Melrose Boy
