Looked a revelation on soft ground at Wetherby last time out, winning with plenty in hand and has to be turned out under a penalty before new mark kicks in. Yard finding some form after a quiet time and follow up here looks a distinct possibility.

Form last season a bit patchy, did win one at Exeter last December (only 1lb higher here) but too many moderate efforts after that for comfort. Possibly best at shorter too and on balance others preferred on this first run back after a break.

Ran a bit better at Worcester latest until throwing the rider off on the run in, and a change of headgear tried today to help his wayward tendency. Nothing wrong with his mark, and handles soft ground fine, so chance if the headgear works.

Holds no secrets from the handicapper but does win in his turn. Likes this track too, but the big negative is the trip, with all his best form coming at shorter. On that, others make more appeal.

His big plus point is his form at the track, including a C&D win in January (8lb higher here). Did ru poorly when last seen but possibly had had enough for the season then, so if freshened up after his break, not ruled out here.

Twice a winner over hurdles but it's not really happened for him over fences yet, and looked hard work at Worcester when last seen. Worth another try at his sort of trip but not one to rely on, and makes only limited appeal.

As many letters as numbers in his form of last season, but there was the odd decent effort to give hope that this mark is workable. Clearly risky, but trip, track and ground all fine and not the biggest surprise if he ran a good one here.

Rattled off a hat-trick of handicap wins at the beginning of the year, showing versatility as regards ground/trip goes in the process. Handicapper in charge since though, so may need to come down a few pounds before getting back on the scoresheet.

Went close at Plumpton in January but that was at a shorter trip than today's, and his efforts over this trip have left plenty to be desired. Hard to win with anyway, and others hold stronger claims.

Age: 8|  Weight: 11-2| J: Adam Wedge| T: Alexandra Dunn| OR:  105| D

Possibly has his quirks (slow to start/has run out) but stays well in slow ground, so has that going for him, and looks on a fair mark. However, yard struggling for form and likely to need this after seven months off the track.

Paddy The Oscar25
Age: 14|  Weight: 10-13| J: Conor Ring(3)| T: G Harris| OR:  102| CD
10/1
Almost old enough to drive these days, but the fire still burns and he turned in a perfectly respectable effort when second here last time out. Likely to give a bold showing from the front again and with ideal conditions, holds e/w claims.

Leith Hill Legasib,t237
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-3| J: J J Burke| T: C E Longsdon| OR:  92| CD

Stays this trip and handles most ground, but bottom line with him is that he's hard to win with, and this grade may be a little out of his comfort zone too. Makes limited appeal on first start for almost eight months.

Forecasts

Daklondike (1/1), Roll The Dough (4/1), Allchilledout (9/1), Paddy The Oscar (10/1), Flaming Charmer (10/1), Alf 'n' Dor (12/1), Leith Hill Legasi (20/1), Gardiners Hill (20/1), Thegreendalerocket (25/1), Black Narcissus (40/1), Modeligo (40/1), Like Sully (66/1)

Verdict

There wouldn't be a dry eye in the house if the evergreen veteran Paddy The Oscar could make all here, and he has half a chance of doing so. He'll come on a bit for his latest effort and the others can't allow him too much rope. But DAKLONDIKE won with such authority at Wetherby on his latest start that, as long as he's over those exertions, surely takes all the beating with a repeat. Allchilledout likes it here and wouldn't be without a chance if wound up. Thegreendalerocket has some pretty horrific looking form figures but isn't out of it if putting his best foot forward.
  1. Daklondike
  2. Allchilledout
  3. Paddy The Oscar
