Won a novices' hurdle here two seasons ago and was runner-up in a novices' chase on his only other visit and as a Grade 1 winner he has to be taken very seriously. Trip and ground are no problem and he is not ruled out from this mark.

Beat the Tizzard-trained subsequent Grade 3 chase winner Theatre Guide when landing this race last year from 3lb lower. Recent pipe-opener will help have her ready for this repeat bid, though ground conditions look to have gone against her.

Trip and ground are probably optimum for this 2016 Greatwood Gold Cup winner, who remains 1lb higher than when taking that race. Returns after a 20-month absence since then but very interesting from this mark, especially as he goes well fresh.

All his winning form has been with cut in the ground, so that is a positive, though he has yet to convince that he gets this far. Below par when last seen at the Cheltenham Festival but looks well treated on his novices' form if he can get home.

Without a chase success since January 2015, but has run some admirable races since. Stays further than this and acts on soft ground. Switches back to fences here after several hurdling runs last season and remains fully exposed.

Went close here over hurdles last autumn and although both his wins were on good, there is no doubting that he handles softer ground. Already shown he can be competitive from this mark, though needs a bit of improvement to win again.

Frustrating for supporters since joining this yard, for whom he was second in five out of six last season, including by just a neck here. Has won on soft ground is no forlorn hope from this mark, though clearly carries risks for punters.

Forecasts

Guitar Pete (3/1), Sametegal (7/2), Zamdy Man (5/1), Splash of Ginge (6/1), Royal Vacation (13/2), Marquis Of Carabas (7/1), Indian Stream (8/1)

Verdict

A good contest, where Zamdy Man is very interesting from what looks still to be a handy mark. However, he has stamina to prove and they don't often dawdle around this galloping track, which may give the edge to SAMETEGAL. Although he may come on for this after such a lengthy absence, his multiple champion trainer is sure to have him fit enough to run well. He has a good record when fresh plus his optimum conditions here and he is given the nod. Last year's winner Indian Stream will find a repeat tough on this softer ground, but Royal Vacation should be doing his best work at the finish and Guitar Pete is not ruled out under his feather weight.
