Age: 6|  Weight: 11-10| J: Adrian Heskin| T: T R George| OR:  139
10/11
Has won both a novices' hurdle (3m, good to soft) and a novices' chase (2m4½f, good) at Southwell, the latter by 6L and readily when last seen in May. Carries a penalty on his reappearance but it would not surprise if he picked up where he left off.

12/1
Well beaten on his chase debut over C&D in this race last year before making a successful return to hurdling. Back over fences, he was an easy 10L winner at Worcester (2m7f, good). This looks tougher but that is not to say he can't follow up.

17/2
Has won three times over hurdles, including here and stays 3m1½f in that sphere. This is not an easy task on his chasing debut, but gets on well with this pilot and has the ability to get involved if he takes to it. Probably better on soft ground.

Cracking Find165
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-3| J: Danny Cook| T: Mrs S J Smith| OR:  122| D
11/2
Was well beaten by Cooking Fat over hurdles at Catterick in February, having won there over 2m3½f the time before. Last of three at Uttoxeter on his chase debut in May (2m, good), but should be better for the experience and this trip.

Dual novices' hurdle winner at around 2m, though 0-5 over fences and has had plenty of jumping issues, including unseating two out when 6L clear at Doncaster in January. No doubt he has ability, though also carries a punters' health warning.

Popelys Gull159
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-3| J: Kielan Woods| T: Mrs P Sly| OR:  116

Was runner-up in three successive handicap hurdles last winter/spring at 2m7f-3m, though he will need to improve significantly for the switch to chasing today to get involved at the business end in this field.

Forecasts

Minella Aris (10/11), Cyrius Moriviere (7/2), Cracking Find (11/2), Cooking Fat (17/2), Work Du Breteau (12/1), Popelys Gull (28/1)

Verdict

An interesting novices' chase where MINELLA ARIS is given the vote to successfully concede weight to all but one of his five opponents. Tom George's gelding left a good impression when last seen in the spring and he looks capable of kicking on to better things this time around. Work Du Breteau didn't have quite as much to beat at Worcester in June, but he is very much respected. Cyrius Moriviere would come into it if he could complete the course, while Cracking Find will need improvement and Cooking Fat will probably pick up one of these over a bit further and on softer ground.
  1. Minella Aris
  2. Work Du Breteau
  3. Cracking Find
