Class act who loves to get his toe in and has winning C&D form from earlier in his career. Arrives on the back of Group 1 success in France and this has been the plan since. Should prove very tough to beat.

Has been dropping back in trip from 1m recently and went close in a Curragh Group 3 last time over 6f. At his best on fast ground, which is a concern and has a few pounds to find with the leading contenders.

9lb worse off with Brando than when beaten by him in last year's Ayr Gold Cup. Subsequent second in a Group 1 at Ascot shows that he can compete at this leve, thoug also has a bit to find with Harry Angel on Newmarket form. Won't mind the ground.

Placed in Group company, though yet to win out of Listed grade. Nonetheless, he comes here in form after a really good effort at Beverley last Saturday and should remain competitive.

Group 2 and dual Group 3 winner who came home last in this event last year. Does have C&D winning form, however, and acts with cut. Was over 4L behind Brando in France last time, so needs to improve on that. Each-way claims.

Fifth in this last year (beaten over 5L) and although he has been placed at Listed level and was beaten just 2L in a Group 3 last time, he looks to be a few pounds short of top class and would spring a surprise if coming home in front.

Runner-up in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot and 2½L to the good over Magical Memory in a York Group 2 earlier in the campaign. Pulled too hard when last in the July Cup and if you can forgive him that, he is a leading player. Acts with cut.

Runner-up in this last year before winning the Group 1 sprint on Champions Day. Had several of these behind when winning the Diamond Jubilee but he was well beaten by Harry Angel in the July Cup. Best on a sound/fast surface. Major player.

Still a work in progress, but already placed three times at this level. His run behind Caravaggio at Royal Ascot was one of the best pieces of form on offer here and with his age allowance he is hugely respected. Yet to race on ground this slow.

Yet to finish out of the first two. Had ½L to spare over Blue Point at Royal Ascot before beating several of these in the July Cup when last seen. On that evidence he looks the one to beat here and he has won on good to soft.

Last year's Group 2 Lowther Stakes winner who comes here on the back of a Listed Pontefract success. All her winning form is on good/fast ground and she has been well held in two previous tries at this elite level. Has plenty to find.

Forecasts

Harry Angel (2/1), Tasleet (9/2), Brando (5/1), The Tin Man (11/2), Blue Point (15/2), Magical Memory (12/1), Growl (25/1), Spirit of Valor (25/1), Queen Kindly (33/1), Cougar Mountain (40/1), Kimberella (40/1), Mr Lupton (50/1)

Verdict

Another fascinating renewal of a contest that has seen just three of the last 10 favourites oblige, with six winners in that period returning SPs of 9-1 or bigger. James Fanshawe is the only winning trainer from that spell with a runner here and he has strong claims of another success with The Tin Man, though the ground is not ideal for last year's runner-up. Blue Point will surely pick up one of these in the near future, but for the moment he looks like just giving best again to Harry Angel. Both should be bang there at the finish, though could succumb to the more seasoned pro in BRANDO, who enjoys come cut and can make it back-to-back Group 1 successes.
