Stays 2m5f but showed at Doncaster in March that he still has the pace to be competitive over this trip over fences. Tough ask, however, for him to revert to hurdling and produce the goods from a mark that has always looked a bit too steep.

Goes well here, as evidenced by his two C&D wins (good) in novices' company last year. Runner-up at Grade Two level last winter, so certainly has a touch of class about him and can go well when fresh. Should be a leading contender.

Made the frame in Listed company at Musselburgh earlier in the year and also proved his well being when making the frame on the Flat there last month. Goes on any ground and remains of interest now dropped slightly in the handicap going into this and with tongue strap fitted.

Was well beaten from 3lb lower at Aintree in June, but comes into this with the boost of a 6L win in novices' company at Stratford last time and also ran well here in-between those races. Can go well, though probably has it to prove in terms of class in this field.

5lb higher than when scoring at Hexham (2m, good) two starts ago, but thrashed from this mark when back there over 2m4f last time. Drop in trip might help to bridge some of that gap, but likely to come up a bit short against a few of these.

Silver Duke8

20/1
Has been beaten a long way in all four runs on the Flat this year and it is almost two-and-a-half years since he recorded his sole win over hurdles at Musselburgh from 4lb higher. 6lb out of the handicap going into this and not easy to fancy.

Forecasts

Mirsaale (7/4), Dear Sire (7/2), Traditional Dancer (4/1), Katgary (5/1), Desert Island Dusk (8/1), Silver Duke (20/1)

Verdict

MIRSAALE likes it at this venue and possesses a touch of class, so with conditions to suit, he could be up to blowing off the cobwebs after a break and winning into the bargain. Traditional Dancer looks likely to get competitive, though Dear Sire is perhaps more of a threat given his win last time. Katgary can't be totally ruled out, but he will probably need a career-best to win from this mark carrying top weight.
  1. Mirsaale
  2. Dear Sire
  3. Traditional Dancer
