The more rain the better for this former Group Two and Listed winner, who has won three times when the ground has been on the soft side. Now back on a mark that he really ought to be very competitive from, though recent efforts leave him with a fair bit to prove.

Dual C&D scorer (on good / good to soft), the most recent of those being his latest win in Listed company. Yet to get really competitive this time around, but now back on a mark from which he can make an impact and six of his nine career wins have been under today's pilot, who is back on board for the first time in nearly two years.

Had a few of these behind when winning over C&D (soft) at the Dante meeting on his first start for this yard, but off the boil in two subsequent starts at Newmarket and Newcastle. Dropped 1lb, so now 2lb higher than his win and any softening of the ground very much a plus. Not ruled out but needs to be at his best.

Versatile with regards to trip (won over 1m2f in 2015) with his most recent of five wins being over this distance at Doncaster in October. 7lb higher today, but was beaten just a neck from this mark by Al Qahwa at the May meeting and if in that sort of form and the ground goes softer than good he has major claims.

Has gone close here over 5f on a couple of occasions and has wins elsewhere to his name over this distance. Now just 2lb higher than his last win. That was first time out last year and he has gone well fresh in 3-5 seasons so far, so entitled to plenty of respect with good ground ideal and slower not a problem.

All five of his wins have been at this trip, though he won so well at Nottingham earlier in the season that he now finds himself 9lb higher. Still managed to put in a very respectable effort from 2lb higher than this at the Curragh last time, so capable of being thereabouts again.

Yet to win a handicap from as high as this and placed from lower marks on all of his last three outings. Won't mind whatever ground comes his way and can be competitive, but may find a few too good at this level.

Dual winner over this trip, though better known for his exploits over 5f. Beaten less than 2L over the latter trip here last time from today's mark and probably has each-way claims if able to reproduce that over this trip.

0-12 on turf, with all six of his wins being on artificial surfaces. However, he was beaten just a head at Doncaster (6f, good to firm) last month. More needed here and ideally wouldn't want the ground to go slower than good.

Back on a dangerous looking mark (won from 3lb higher on his reappearance in 2016) after being unable to get competitive in his last four runs. Blinkers had no effect two starts ago and now cheekpieces tried. Not ground dependent and if there is any market confidence then we can anticipate a probable return to better form.

Handicapper now looks to have her sized up after several Listed-placed efforts this season and she was found out in a Group Three here over C&D last time. At her best on fast ground and this is a tough enough ask to record her first 6f win back in handicap company despite a 2lb drop and a claimer up.

6lb higher than his last two wins, the most recent being at Ayr last month when sporting first-time cheekpieces. Well held when stepped up to this class at Hamilton last time, but went very well from 1lb higher (beaten ½L) in a class two here last September and if in that sort of form he would be very competitive.

Appears to want either an All Weather surface or good/fast ground to be seen to best effect, so any rain is likely to be a negative. Nudged up 3lb for a really good effort when a ½L runner up at Doncaster (6f, good to firm) last time but still going the right way and has each-way claims if handling conditions as well in a better race.

Sole success was in a Southwell maiden (6f, AW) two years ago when with Ismail Mohammed, but has twice gone close here over 5f for current trainer and is back on the sort of mark from which that occurred. Very interesting now back over this trip and from this mark, with good or slower ground ideal.

Won a 7f Newmarket maiden last year for Saeed bin Suroor and produced one promising handicap effort from 3lb higher than today before joining current handler. Not shown much for him so far and looks likely to have her work cut out at this level today.

Forecasts

Muntadab (11/2), Ultimate Avenue (13/2), Snap Shots (7/1), George Bowen (7/1), Rasheeq (8/1), Al Qahwa (9/1), Dougan (9/1), Out Do (10/1), Normandy Barriere (10/1), Flying Pursuit (12/1), Futoon (12/1), Mobsta (12/1), Move In Time (14/1), El Hombre (14/1), Hoofalong (16/1), Jaywalker (16/1), Nameitwhatyoulike (16/1), Watchable (16/1), Teruntum Star (20/1), Clear Water (33/1)

Verdict

With their age allowances, the two three-year-olds both make appeal in this field and it might be worth siding with ULTIMATE AVENUE to take advantage of that. Ed Walker's colt looks to have a touch of class about him and is unexposed going into this, with more scope for improvement. If the ground turns soft then his pedigree also suggests that he should have that base covered. El Hombre is the other classic-aged runner and he is not ruled out if he can find a bit more. Nameitwhatyoulike, Hoofalong, Rasheeq and Muntadab are others with claims, while for those wanting a pot shot at an each-way price then Terentum Star could come back to form in what is a very interesting race.
