Just the one win over 5f on the AW but has run well in successful 6f handicaps here of late, beaten just 1L into fourth behind Pennsylvania Dutch latest on softer ground. Looks a player once again if a first-time visor has the desired effect.

Mud-lover who gained the most recent of her three career wins in this race 12 months ago (soft ground) from a 4lb higher mark. Not quite in the same form now and unlikely to get the underfoot conditions she needs.

Chester maiden winner last year who had been largely uncompetitive until scoring at Thirsk (6f, good to firm) three runs back. Well-held off higher marks twice since and others look better handicapped.

Enjoying a tremendous season, having completed a hat-trick of wins by scoring at York (6f, good to firm) last month. Has shot up in the weights and latest effort when third at Leicester suggests the assessor may now hold sway.

Much improved under this rider this year, making it three wins from his last four starts with a narrow success over 6f at Thirsk (good to firm) last month. Raised 3lb for that and possible he could bump into something better handicapped.

Consistent sort who made the frame in each of his six starts before deservedly getting off the mark with an easy 8L victory at Catterick (6f, soft). Much bigger questions asked on his handicap debut here but opening mark looks reasonable.

Ex-Godolphin, he won a 6f Lingfield handicap on his debut for this yard in March and has performed with credit off much higher marks since without looking like winning. Would need to eke out some improvement to land this.

Broke his maiden at the fifth time of asking in a handicap over 6f at Windsor in May. Couldn't quite back that up off a 6lb higher mark when beaten 3l into second by Stanhope at Newmarket (6f, good to soft) but remains open to improvement.

Only fourth of eight on his debut in a Doncaster maiden but improved to narrowly scramble home from subsequent winner Zumran at Chelmsford next time. Having cost 250,000 guineas its hard to believe there isn't a fair bit more to come as he goes handicapping.

A winner at Newcastle last autumn and has improved this year, scoring from a poor draw at Pontefract (6f, good) before finding The Armed Man almost 2L too good lat Thirsk latest. Could reverse that form on revised terms but this looks a deeper race.

A four-time winner in his younger days but not had his head in front for over two years now. Not beaten that far over 7f at Chelmsford on his penultimate start but toiled over 6f last time and hard to enthuse over as cheekpieces are introduced.

Curragh nursery winner for Tommy Stack in 2015 and also contested a Group 3 but missed all of last year and tough going in three handicaps for this yard so far. Mark has plummeted though, so market support would be interesting.

Summerghand (7/2), Hart Stopper (4/1), Full Intention (4/1), The Armed Man (8/1), Benjamin Thomas (9/1), Round The Island (10/1), Meshardal (11/1), Tigerwolf (12/1), Sword Exceed (14/1), Scofflaw (20/1), Dandyleekie (20/1), Newstead Abbey (50/1), Dr Doro (66/1)

Verdict

Competitive stuff in which the likes of Full Intention, Hart Stopper and Benjamin Thomas all make varying levels of appeal in what looks a tight-knit handicap. But, if there is a blot on the weights it is likely to be expensive purchase SUMMERGHAND even though he recently made heavy weather of opening his account at Chelmsford. It should be noted that the second home that day, Zumran, has since won well at Doncaster and there could be much to come from David O'Meara's colt as he goes handicapping.
