Cost £60,000 as a yearling and is the first foal of a juvenile 6f winner who is a half-sister to the useful Carrizo Creek. Yard are no stranger to two-year-old winners and this expensive purchase is well drawn for his debut with the stable 1/7 with their debutantes this year.

Really has made little impact in two starts so far on turf over 5f finishing well held on both occasions and faces an awkward draw here.

Form in two runs so far has been fairly modest although he did show a little more in first-time cheekpieces at Ayr on his last run. Would still need more here and from a double figure draw is best watched for now.

Ghayadh

8/1
Well-bred and expensive juvenile (£190,000) who has yet to run. Half-brother to a winner in France with the dam a 7f winner. Yard are yet to have a two-year-old debutante winner from eight attempts so far this season.

4/1
Debutante from a yard that know the time of day with their juveniles and are hitting a 17% strike-rate with their debutantes this year. Wasn't cheap as a two-year-old from the Craven breeze-up sales (cost 105,000 guineas) and has the plum draw over 5f here.

Stable are not known for their two-year-olds especially on debut although he is a half-brother to several winners including the smart Monsieur Joe who won for this stable. Quite nicely drawn and worth checking in the market.

The form of his debut run can hardly be described as strong but it did show promise and he may well be able to build on his debut second. Pedigree which looks speedy makes some appeal and it won't be a surprise to see him take another step forward here.

Not seen since May when he made a promising debut at York over 5f on soft ground. That race has thrown up winners and also the subsequent Norfolk Stakes runner-up Santry. Knew what to do on his debut and looks well up to winning an event like this. Remains to be seen if he's ready to go after a break and can act on quicker ground. Not particularly well drawn.

Didn't make any progress from his debut when only third at Haydock last time and may have found that race coming too soon or the softer ground not suiting. Worth another chance off a longer break and on better ground for a yard that have been going well with their juveniles.

His debut run at Windsor over 6f may not prove to be the strongest form but he did look as though he was better than his final placing and shaped better than the bare result. Looks a speedy sort and this switch back to 5f may suit him far better and looks very much the type to improve and take a hand here.

Stable can have the odd useful juvenile and this one was highly tried last time out in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot (started 66/1). Wasn't disgraced in that run at all and her previous two maiden runs would put her in the picture here.

0/12 is the stable record with juveniles this season and this Dragon Pulse filly only showed minor encouragement on debut over 5f (soft) at Carlisle and faces a tough test here.

Straffan
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-0| J: P Makin| T: D O'Meara
33/1
Just the one debutante winner from this yard this season in this sphere and judging by the pedigree shown by this Clodovil filly a little further may well be needed for this one. This is a strong looking heat and she faces a tough debut.

Forecasts

Bath And Tennis (3/1), Savalas (7/2), Regulator (4/1), Seyaady (6/1), Ghayadh (8/1), Roman River (10/1), Two Seas (14/1), Albert Street (22/1), Straffan (33/1), Rock Hill (33/1), Magic Pulse (50/1), Billy Booth (50/1), Bee Machine (50/1)

Verdict

The first of two divisions of the 5f two-year-old maiden with both looking to be competitive contests although the draw may play its part in both heats. Bath And Tennis must be respected on her Queen Mary form while of the others that have run Savalas, Roman River and Seyaady all have claims with Two Seas another of interest who might just be better than his debut run. The newcomers looks to be quite a useful bunch though with the pick of them the well drawn REGULATOR from a yard that know all about two-year-old winners here. Rock Hill and Ghayadh are two other debutantes worth noting.
  1. Regulator
  2. Savalas
  3. Two Seas
