Has only won two races so far in his career, but one of those was a valuable Newmarket handicap and he has also hinted at ability so far this season, with a tendency to finish off his races very well. Looks well handicapped and has won on soft ground.

Has run a series of solid races so far this season which have simultaneously shown he retains his ability while also protecting his handicap mark, which currently seems fair. All wins have come at this trip and should have plenty of pace to assist given where he's drawn.

Hat-trick seeker who is up another 6lb having won at Hamilton last time, and is clearly highly progressive having 18lb so far in 2017. Will need to find his handicap ceiling at some point but shows no signs of stopping for now.

Makes her first appearance for this trainer having progressed quickly when with Garry Moss before eventually finding her apparent handicap maximum. Interesting to see if this new handler can encourage any more improvement.

Didn't run to his optimum when never getting involved at Haydock last time over slightly further, and has generally looked more effective on a synthetic surface.

Relatively consistent type who always runs her race despite not having threatened to get her head in front so fat this year. May have further untapped potential at this stage.

Makes his belated seasonal reappearance having finished 2016 with a fine second in a Catterick handicap sprint (6f, soft). Will enjoy these conditions and is probably more effective back down at the minimum trip.

Victory at Newmarket in May was his first win on turf but he has run some nice races on a range of surfaces in the past and could be well handicapped if able to replicate his best form here.

Collected an impressive run of victories last summer but his form leveled off slightly, but almost resumed winning ways at Hamilton two days ago. Would be interesting if able to run to that form again today.

Not disgraced in two outings so far this season but those were both lower grade events than this and a step up will certainly be required in order to get competitive in this.

Has looked handicapped to her best across her last few runs off a career-high mark, and though she gets some relief from the assessor now she'll still need to find that first time cheek pieces make a significant difference.

Has looked fully exposed throughout his recent racecourse appearances, and has never really seemed to enjoy softer conditions. Best watched in this company.

Consistency hasn't been his strong point since moving to this trainer, and though he could probably challenge for a place on one of his better days, he has plenty on his plate here.

Veteran whose current losing run is starting to build up. Looks to be in the firm grip of the handicapper, for all he is proven in softer conditions.

Ran some decent races in sprint handicaps for his previous handler, but hasn't been able to run to his best form for his current yard and no reason why that should change here.

13th place finish last time out was the first occasion for six races where he hasn't finished last of all and he is almost impossible to fancy despite running some very nice races last year.

Slipping down the handicap but was beaten 8¼L by Henley last time and even with the weight differential considered that seems to be too much of an ask for him to be considered a genuine threat.

Has been coming up short at a lower level than this in his recent races, and hasn't been going down the handicap quite at the rate necessary in order for him to turn things around here.

Forecasts

Henley (5/1), Hilary J (13/2), Fumbo Jumbo (15/2), Mont Kiara (9/1), Black Grass (10/1), Desert Ace (10/1), Midnight Malibu (10/1), Bashiba (11/1), Tylery Wonder (14/1), Sandra's Secret (14/1), Apricot Sky (14/1), Paddy Power (16/1), Memories Galore (20/1), B Fifty Two (25/1), See The Sun (25/1), First Bombardment (33/1), Seamster (33/1), Geoff Potts (33/1)

Verdict

A race where it may pay to look towards the head of the weights, and BASHIBA, who has been running well enough to show how good he is without ruining his handicap mark so far this year; he has been somewhat unlucky not to achieve more. A race of this type (over an ideal trip for him) should be within his grasp at some point and perhaps this will prove to be the day that that comes to be.. Henley is clearly incredibly progressive and cannot go unmentioned bearing in mind he could continue with that improvement, while Mont Kiara has caught the eye on more than once occasion recently.
  1. Bashiba
  2. Henley
  3. Mont Kiara
