Showed improved form when winning at York last month when trying 7f for the second time and looking to be suited by the distance. Won fairly comfortably and looks the sort to carry on improving although he will have to overcome a 9lb rise with cheekpieces employed for the first time.

2/2 as a two-year-old winning over 6f twice at Hamilton and Pontefract making all on both occasions. Not seen since and this will be his handicap debut off what looks to be a stiff enough mark although he's worthy of respect given his connections.

Maiden winner on his debut at Salisbury over 6f (all runs over that trip) and looked as though he could progress from his debut fourth in a handicap at Newmarket. Moves up in trip now but might just need a little more to take a hand here.

Always looked as though he would be the sort who would be better in handicaps after showing ability in maidens. Only found one too strong on his handicap debut (ran a little free) and followed that up with a solid enough run at Epsom a repetition of which would put him in the mix here.

Appreciated the drop in class when winning at Ayr on his penultimate start over 6f but ran well below form last time out over the same trip at Haydock. May well be worth another chance but this is a stiff enough test.

Winner of a 7f maiden at Goodwood last year he's shaped quite well in two AW handicaps taking the runner-up slot on both occasions to start the year. Ran in a competitive three-year-old handicap last time out (five last time out winners in the race) and probably shaped a little better than his finishing position.

Consistent sort who did manage to beat two rivals when winning an AW handicap at Lingfield in February. Has run well enough since then but hard to think that there aren't some others who could improve past him here.

Forecasts

Battered (5/4), Black Trilby (10/3), Love Dreams (11/2), Sea Shack (7/1), Akhlaaq (15/2), Burrishoole Abbey (20/1), Spirit Of Sarwan (25/1)

Verdict

Some nice types in this and there is a possibility that BATTERED could prove to be better than a handicapper and show some further improvement despite the 9lb rise in the weights for his York romp. Black Trilby has shown enough to put him in the picture for a race like this along with Akhlaaq with Sea Shack possibly better than he showed last time out. Love Dreams has to also enter the equation although the long absence is a worry and he might just need this as he defends his unbeaten record.
  1. Battered
  2. Sea Shack
  3. Black Trilby
