Goes into this 2lb lower than when recording his only win, over 1m2f at Newcastle in June. Unable to make the step up in class thereafter, but now back down to this level he has to enter calculations. Cheek pieces now fitted and has a decent draw, so looks booked for a better effort.

Reeled off wins over 1m1½f and 1m4f at Wolverhampton in February/March but a 5lb rise did for him back there last time. Yet to win on turf, but one of his placed efforts came on good to soft and with rain around he could figure, though he will need to show more than last time from the same mark.

Recorded sole win over 1m1f at Carlisle (good to soft) in September from 1lb higher. Yet to trouble the judge in three outings over this trip this year, but this is weaker than those races and with rain around he may go much closer again this time.

Won three times in France from 1m2f to 1m4f, but yet to get competitive in Britain. Runs from same mark as when beaten over 6L on her stable debut at Newcastle (1m2f, AW) last time and needs to improve to figure.

Bumper winner who has shown a reasonable level of form in defeats in three maidens over 7f-1m½f. This step up in trip very much a positive and he could get much more competitive from an initial mark of 67.

Won a couple of handicaps for William Haggas in 2015 (7f), the best from a mark of 77, but steady decline in form since then and has made the frame just once in 10 starts since joining current stable. Handicapper is giving him a chance, but whether he is good enough to take it remains open to question.

Has wins over 6f and 7f to his name when with Robert Eddery and failed to settle on debut for this yard at Haydock (1m2f, good to firm) recently. Dropped 1lb today and won't mind a drop of rain. Faced with a poor draw but otherwise there is enough encouragement there to suggest that he can compete if settling.

Showed promise in a Pontefract maiden (1m, good to soft) in October, but beaten 10L when eighth of nine back there (1m, good to firm) in his handicap/seasonal debut last month. Dropped 3lb for this and should be better for the run, so could emerge as a leading contender.

Not ground dependent (has wins on good to firm, good and soft), though clearly enjoys a bit of cut and this trip. Back on the same mark as when scoring at Haydock last July and plenty of encouragement over 1m4f at Doncaster last time. Inside draw here and it will be a surprise if he is not a leading player.

Won handicaps at Catterick (7f, good to firm) and Beverley (1m½f, good) last term, the latter from a mark of 56, when with David Loughnane. Well held on all three starts for current yard from marks in the 60s but a 2lb drop will help and worth a try at this trip. Bit to prove, however, at present.

Goes into this 7lb lower than when beaten just a neck (1m, good to firm) at Redcar in similar company last spring, but has not yet shown as much as his last couple of SPs for his current yard have hinted at. Not one to write off from a decent draw but will need to step up on recent efforts to be winning.

Forecasts

Miss Ranger (10/3), Arithmetic (11/2), Lopito de Vega (11/2), Senatus (6/1), Suitor (7/1), Eez Eh (7/1), Apalis (8/1), Dunquin (8/1), False Id (10/1), Auxiliary (12/1), Competition (20/1), Beadlam (22/1), Frankster (25/1), Never Give In (33/1)

Verdict

Suitor has his best chance for some time today and has to be taken seriously, while stablemate Miss Ranger has the ability to win it if she can overcome a wide draw. Eez Eh, False Id and Frankster are others who could make thier mark, but preference is for LOPITO DE VEGA, for whom this drop in trip looks positive and any easing in the ground also looks likely to suit.
  1. Lopito de Vega
  2. Suitor
  3. Frankster
