Finished second behind Yuften on Champions Day at Ascot, hanging badly in the closing stages and had displayed that quirk earlier in his career. An impressive performance nonetheless and only 2lb higher than that in this contest. Shaped okay on his return to action at Ascot last time when finishing tenth of 24 and step back up in trip will no doubt be in his favour; should go close.

On the upgrade since he stepped up in trip and held on well to win at Kempton on final start of 2016. Likely to be more to come this year and trainer/jockey have a 38.64% strike-rate when teaming up together (7-19). However, he's a free going sort and that has to be a slight concern returning from an absence, market support would be interesting.

Five-time winner in his career so far and scored from a higher mark than this at Wolverhampton at the start of the year. Lost his way and struggled badly on his last four starts; wide draw won't be ideal but jockey does ride this course well.

Only lightly raced and had two wins from six starts to date, with both of those efforts coming on soft ground. Unlikely to get genuinely soft ground here but he's ran okay on a quicker surface before and on undualting tracks. First-time cheekpieces may bring out a little improvement and there's not a whole lot of pace in this so he could get an easy time on the front end.

Very consistent sort who has run well on both starts this season. Hard to imagine he is well-handicapped but he's more likely than some in here to give his running and place chances again with an eye-catching jockey booking.

Losing run goes all the way back to 2012 but has threatened to get his head back in front on a couple of occasions this year. Faster the better with regards to conditions and he has the assistance of a claimer worth her 5lb in the saddle but widest draw is a little off-putting.

In fine form on the AW this winter culminating in back-to-back wins at Lingfield in January/February. Struggling off his revised mark since and not as much scope from a handicapping perspective as some in here but yard's runners have been going well this year; not dismissed.

Both her best recent efforts have come at York including her latest win off a 5lb lower mark. Not at her best on two starts this year though and well beaten last time at that same course so looks opposable here.

Inconsistent type but did record a win at Wolverhampton in April off a mark of 81. 8lb higher now but faster ground over a mile is probably his optimum conditions so not dismissed if the rain stays away.

Record a hat-trick back in 2015 but not won since and appeared to be struggling badly up until a fair effort at Newbury last month when third of 15, possibly could have won that way if he hadn't hung badly towards the rail in the closing stages. Well suited to being held up off a strong pace and he's an interesting contender off a lenient looking mark but he's not straightforward.

Struggling off this sort of mark at present and best recent efforts have come on the AW, despite his winning form coming on turf. Looks opposable from out of the handicap.

Won back-to-back apprentice handicaps at Lingifeld on AW Championship Finals Day and then Ascot recording his first turf win in 18 starts. Booking of a promising apprentice helps offset the fact he's out of the weights and chances shouldn't be dismissed from a feasible looking turf mark.

Forecasts

G K Chesterton (3/1), Remarkable (3/1), Spring Offensive (7/1), Sixties Groove (7/1), Mutarakez (7/1), Home Cummins (14/1), Mythical Madness (20/1), Stipulate (20/1), Calvados Spirit (20/1), Cricklewood Green (25/1), Forceful Appeal (33/1), Chevallier (33/1)

Verdict

G K Chesterton will be many people's idea of the winner but the jury is out on whether he is quite as good on better ground. On that basis, it may be worth taking a chance on MUTARAKEZ who looked like he may have won last time if it wasn't for his questionable behavior in the closing stages. He's well suited to a strong pace and he should get that to aim at around here. Remarkable will appreciate the step back up to a mile but he's another one who can hang in the closing stages and perhaps not one to get too carried away with at too short-a-price.
