Has a won a maiden and a handicap, both on the second attempt at those respective disciplines. Up 4lb for the handicap victory (the margin was only a head), which came at Doncaster last month, though it would be a concern that he seems to prefer slower conditions to what he is likely to get today.

Made a narrow winning handicap debut at Chelmsford last time having also won a maiden, and looks for a third career win out of three here. Wouldn't have won at Chelmsford with the extra 5lb she carries today, but has scope to improve and should go close again.

Didn't handle a step up in the class to Listed level at all when beaten 34L at Pontefract in October, but connections clearly think a lot of her to have pitched her in at that level and she should go well on her reappearance in first time cheek pieces.

Off the mark at the third attempt last time out and has plenty of potential for further improvement. Makes his handicap debut here off a fair-looking opening mark, and it's encouraging that he has run well on the Tapeta at Newcastle previously.

Won a maiden here over shorter on only his second start, but has struggled in handicap company since, and will probably need more relief in the weights before notching up a second career win.

Put his debut performance well behind him when shedding his maiden tag over C&D last time. The second had won since and it's possible that this opening mark could prove lenient in time.

Not out of the top three on his six most recent starts, but as a result is 5lb above his only winning handicap mark so far and has found that difficult to contend with on recent starts. Others make more obvious appeal.

Won at Chelmsford in November but has not looked like repeating that performance twice this year, once when being soundly beaten in Listed company, and then again back at Chelmsford last time. This is slightly easier than that race but more will still be needed.

Dual-winner this year, but both those victories came at the specialist venue of Southwell, and he hasn't looked the same horse at other venues, with this likely to prove no exception, despite the interesting jockey booking.

Course winner last time out in September, narrowly touching off El Cap in the process, and is slightly better off at the weights here, but looks to have less improvement in him than that reopposing rival.

Has gone close to getting off the mark in each of his three starts so far, running well in all of them and two of them coming at this course. Makes his handicap debut off a relatively low mark and there's every chance that it could turn out to be a winning one.

Forecasts

Pavillon (9/4), Weloof (5/1), Me Too Nagasaki (6/1), Mukalal (13/2), Dowayla (15/2), Glorious Forever (10/1), El Cap (11/1), Jupiter Light (11/1), Makaarim (11/1), Vantage Point (20/1), Muirsheen Durkin (33/1), Annie Fior (66/1), Quinteo (66/1)

Verdict

This has the potential to be a quality handicap relative to what might be expected, and off bottom-weight it can go to EL CAP. Sir Michael Stoute's colt has been unlucky not to get off the mark so far, running very well in three starts, with two of those performances occurring here. As a result of not winning any of those races he is allotted a much lower mark than some of his rivals here who may well have run to a similar level in winning their maidens. Quinteo was one of those to beat the selection here last year and is feared most once again, ahead of the unbeaten Pavillion.
  1. El Cap
  2. Quinteo
  3. Pavillon
