Half-brother to a winner on the Flat in France. Picked up for €22,000 after finishing third in a weak race in France last October, but only ninth of eleven on stable debut at Carlisle last month to long odds-on winner Mr Big Shot.

Half-brother to the useful hurdler and chaser Rupert Lamb, but despite initial steady progress in bumpers, hasn't really excelled in two starts over hurdles. Lines up for just the second time for this trainer needing to show more.

Jewelled Princep259
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-4| J: Thomas Dowson(5)| T: Miss J E Foster| OR:  93
50/1
Pulled up on his final start for Warren Greatrex after setting a searing early pace at Worcester in August 2016 (2m4f good) having previously raced for Richard Fahey on the Flat and Michael Hourigan over jumps in Ireland. Lengthy absence to overcome on stable debut and needs to improve to be involved.

11/10
1m2f winner on the Flat in Germany for P. Schiergen and switched to these connections for 25,000 gns in October 2016. Beaten 11L by Talkischeap on hurdles debut at Fontwell recently (2m3f), and quickly drops back in trip with the Champion Jockey booked.

Age: 4|  Weight: 11-0| J: Harry Skelton| T: D Skelton| OR:  113
5/4
Maiden after 18 outings in Ireland including when not beaten far in hurdles events at Tipperary (third) and Ballinrobe (fourth) last year. Cost these connections €10,500 in November 2016, and made a pleasing start when 1½L runner up to Lord Topper at Wetherby (2m good) last month. Clear chance at a similar level.

Cost just £600 at Ascot in November 2016 having raced on the Flat for a couple of trainers with little promise (rated 39), and has been well beaten on both hurdles starts so far for this trainer.

Come On Lulup23
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-11| J: Nathan Moscrop(5)| T: D Thompson| OR:  84
33/1
Lowly rated on the Flat (43), and this 20 race career maiden has appeared very limited in four spins over hurdles so far and is easily ignored.

Heavenly Gaith55
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-11| J: Finian O'Toole(5)| T: J Ward
150/1
Tailed off in both starts in bumpers during the later months of 2016, and no showing twice on Tapeta at Newcastle during March 2017. Makes her hurdles debut with forecast rain possibly helpful (by Revoque), but little to recommend her on overall.

Forecasts

Lovato (11/10), Ravens Hill (5/4), Jack Lamb (5/1), Falcos (12/1), Come On Lulu (33/1), Russian Rascal (40/1), Jewelled Prince (50/1), Heavenly Gait (150/1)

Verdict

A very weak maiden hurdle, with Falcos and Jack Lamb the pick of the locally trained runners (least exposed). However, this most likely rests between Lovato and RAVENS HILL. With rain forecast and concerns with regards the former named runners stamina (despite dropping back in trip), the Dan Skelton trained horse is taken to get off the mark at the second time of asking for the yard.
  1. Ravens Hill
  2. Lovato
  3. Falcos
