Winner on turf last year at Windsor off a much lower mark and continued in good form for the rest of the year looking ahead of his mark mostly on the AW. Often hampers his chance though by running too free and was below form last time out back on turf. Ridden by a good young apprentice here but possibly needs some headgear to settle him down.

Winner of this race last year off a 2lb lower mark by 5L but the handicapper took a hold after that runaway win and he struggled off much higher marks. Looked to need the run last time out when returning from a long break and remains out of sorts and with something to prove even back at his favourite venue.

Made the most of a good opportunity when winning a handicap at Windsor last year over 1m2f but failed to build on that in three subsequent runs all off higher marks. Needs to bounce back here after a break and drops back in trip here in a race that he finished fifth in last year.

Winner of a claimer on the AW at Wolverhampton in early March, he has won off higher marks in handicaps in the past. Not seen at his best for this stable in his last two starts (unsuited by the draw/the way the race developed) but does race very freely and can finish his races weakly.

Three runs in maidens showed some promise and it was no surprise to see him score on his handicap debut after a winter break over a mile on the AW. Made all on that occasion with the rider being fairly easy on him and he looks as though there is more to come off a 6lb higher mark and very much looks the sort the yard do well with.

Might not be the easiest sort to deal with but has ability with his last two wins coming over this trip, although they were both back in 2015. Started this season off a career low mark as a result of his declining form but shaped well last time at Pontefract where he didn't get the run of the race. Had very little chance from his track position and granted a clear run he's one to note off this sort of mark.

Dual C&D winner both off the same mark of 84 and he's 7lb lower today but ended last season merely ticking over. The break may well have done him good though and he returns to one of his favourite courses having run well fresh in the past.

Thirteen career wins but none have come on the turf where his record stands at 0/16. Scored last time out at Lingfield to provide the biggest win of his career but was seen to best effect throughout (well drawn and positioned); competes off his much lower turf mark here.

Not had much racing for a four-year-old and looked as though 1m2f was too far for him on his handicap debut for his previous yard, having shown some ability in maidens (all over a mile). Now with a new yard and very much left the impression last time out that this return to a mile would suit and one of the more interesting types if he's ready to go here.

His two runs on the AW this year are his first since 2014 when he scored in a turf maiden and an AW mile handicap off 72. Has shown a little of his old ability for his new yard after the long break and may well appreciate the return to a mile here.

Verdict

Several interesting contenders in his mile handicap with Gerry The Glover and Cat Silver both having plenty to recommend them in their own way. Last year’s winner Balmoral Castle should also be respected as he’s always gone well here and Mister Music whilst looking vulnerable off this mark should run his usual consistent race. SELECTION catches the eye in this though, coming from a yard that do really well with this type and the 6lb rise for his last win doesn’t look particularly harsh given the manner of his win.
