4.30 Carlisle

DOES HE KNOW is the best horse in this contest but is third-favourite after a poor effort at Exeter.

That is his second poor run in as many starts at Exeter, and I’m more than happy to ignore it as the track clearly doesn’t suit a horse who has his quirks but is largely dependable elsewhere.

He’s run well in better races than this off higher marks this season and will surely take plenty of beating if back to form.

Of the others, Credo is high in the weights having won that Exeter contest under a superb Harry Cobden ride and remains 7lb above his winning mark, making him look vulnerable, while Cloudy Glen is very useful fresh but tends to do all his winning these days after a break.

Dubai Days is very consistent but is another going up in the weights and may find this company a little too warm.

2.53 Limerick

I’ve watched CAPPA HILL's two hurdles runs to date and marked him down as a winner in waiting when stepping up in trip.

Sean Allen’s son of Kingston Hill has been fourth in points and, being out of a Westerner mare, is sure to need further than 2m under rules.

He has jumped efficiently from on or near the front on both starts, and I liked the way he kept on again when three and a half lengths third of 14 to Nowwhatdoyouthink at Thurles last time.

This stiffer test will suit, and there doesn’t look to be great depth in this maiden behind the two market leaders, making him look a solid each-way bet.

Given Dr Eggman has been very expensive to follow and Good N’ Kind has been off the track for over a year, Cappa Hill might have a decent chance of winning if improving as expected for the longer trip and while this run is needed for a handicap mark, I think he will be ridden positively once more.

He should give us a decent spin at double-figure odds.
