Rory Delargy and David Massey look ahead to today's racing action and they have bets at Leicester and Wolverhampton.
Racing betting tips: Tuesday February 25
1pt win Mixedwave in the 2.45 Leicester at 15/2 (General, min 6/1)
0.5pts e.w Himawari in the 8.30 Wolverhampton at 20/1 (Paddy Power, Betfair, min 14/1)
8:30 Wolverhampton
On a day when bets are hard to find, the only other interest I have on the day comes in the last at Wolverhampton, a good ole’ 0-50 Classified event where it looks pretty open, with no standout candidate.
There should be some pace on, however, with Battle Point, Global Effort and Suanni all likely to want a show of the front, and perhaps it sets up for something from off the pace. With that, I’ll take a chance that HIMAWARI’s close fifth here last time wasn’t a flash in the pan and she’s now going the right way again.
The addition of a hood and a more patient ride seemed to help Himawari last time, having blasted off from the front the time before and on that occasion, was cooked a furlong out under a very aggressive ride. Here, she ran on nicely enough from the rear to be beaten a shade under two lengths and although an extra furlong here might have helped her cause further, a fast-run five should be fine. The time figure she clocked last time was her best for a while and about as good as anything in this field could muster on their latest starts, so if she can take another step forward in what is an easier contest, she should get in the shake-up.
2:45 Leicester
Jumper Madrik is the improver in the field and is going to be tough enough to beat if he can master another 7lb rise, as he looks like this step up in trip is what he wants based on hsi two chase wins to date. However, his jumping hasn’t always been blemish-free and he’s going to give others a chance if he starts making mistakes again.
MIXEDWAVE takes a fairly big step down in grade, having been plying his trade in Class 4 handicaps for the winter, and is going to find this company a lot less taxing. There have been signs of a recovery on his last two starts and his only run over these fences was a winning one. He’s very consistent in Class 5s, and his record in 0-100s over fences reads 4113311, two of those wins coming on ground described by heavy by Timeform. There’s enough to like about his chances today to make him a bet.
