After the torrential rain earlier in the week, PROFITABLE could be ideally suited by the conditions in Friday's Group Two Qatar King George Stakes at Goodwood.
The winner of three top sprints last season (including the Kings Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot) on ground with soft in the going description, Clive Cox's five-year-old ran a blinder when attempting to win a second Kings Stand in June, chasing home the brilliant Lady Aurelia on good to firm ground with Marsha (beaten at odds on since) a close third and Take Cover, successful twice in this race, fifth.
In what is likely to be a furiously-run contest but on ground which may not entirely suit speedy types like Take Cover and the improving Battaash, Profitable could be well poised to pounce in the closing stages under James Doyle.
In the Betfred Mile, a low draw can be very important and the front-running Zhui Feng must have a good chance of following up his Royal Hunt Cup success from stall four despite a 6lb rise in the ratings.
Drawn next door in three is last year's slightly unlucky runner-up MASTER THE WORLD who, eighth at Royal Ascot, gave further indication that he was returning to form when second to the progressive Ballard Down in soft ground at Newmarket subsequently.
Ryan Moore will need a bit of luck round the inside on this hold-up horse who can be difficult to win with but, off a 1lb lower mark than when beaten by the well-handicapped Franklin D here 12 months ago, he must go close.
Blair House, beaten just half a length by Zhui Feng at Ascot on his seasonal debut, should be another big player though the fitting of blinkers for the first time is a little surprising.
Earlier, following the defection of the French-trained Trais Fluors, BEAT THE BANK looks to have solid claims in the Group Three Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes.
Andrew Balding's colt would be unbeaten but for a run down the field in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot over seven furlongs on a really quick surface, and he looked much more comfortable over a mile on good ground at Newmarket last time when handing out a three length beating to the re-opposing Forest Ranger with last Saturday's Ascot winner D'bai back in third.
Softer going is an unknown but, providing he handles it, Beat The Bank could have a good bit in hand here and is well clear on the official ratings.
