Kempton and Yarmouth take centre stage on Wednesday with the Classic Trial (re-routed from Sandown) and the listed Snowdrop Fillies Stakes featuring at the former venue.

In the Snowdrop, Billesdon Brook would appear to have a clear chance on ratings but the Guineas and Sun Chariot winner has tended to need a run in the past and faces a promising, unexposed rival in the John Gosden-trained Nazeef.

The Classic Trial field includes the William Haggas-trained filly Born With Pride who handled heavy ground well to win a listed race at Newmarket on her debut last November so staking her claim for the Oaks.

But she faces stiff opposition from the Zetland Stakes winner Max Vega and the impressive Gosden colt Hypothetical, and there seems little value in the market.

At a much lower level, NEWYORKSTATEOFMIND can take advantage of stall one in the opening Unibet Thanks The Frontline Workers Handicap.

Martin Dwyer's mount did well to win over the course and distance last October, showing plenty of pace from a high draw to get across and track the front-running Hard To Hold before staying on strongly for a decisive victory from previous winner Music Therapist with Swinley (now up 6lb for winning subsequently at Wolverhampton) back in third.

Newyorkstateofmind improved with his racing last season and, now gelded, can pick up where he left off. Dwyer will doubtless be looking for a clean break on the inside of Never Dark, who is dropped in trip and also goes forward, and his mount looks value to make his inside berth count over the sharp turning five.

At Yarmouth, a crystal ball may be required to sift through some very difficult handicaps but RUM BABA is taken to follow up his maiden success at Windsor last July in the Betway Heed Your Hunch Handicap.

That was a game effort by the son of New Approach as he was hard on a strong pace all the way and fought on gallantly to beat the Gosden-trained Frontman (unraced since) with the subsequently progressive Bear Force One well beaten off back in fourth.

On his previous start, Rum Baba ran up against two really useful Gosden inmates when third behind First In Line and Harrovian at Lingfield and, while possibly flattered by his proximity to the front pair who both looked inexperienced that day, it was still a taking effort and a big improvement on his debut at the Newmarket Craven meeting when coltish.

A full brother to the Nassau Stakes winner Sultanina, I will be surprised if the selection cannot go onto better things in the months to come.
