Simon Holt has been in good form through the week and pinpoint his two best bets on Newbury's early-evening card on Friday.
The first four races at Newbury on Friday late afternoon/evening will be shown live on ITV4 beginning with the It's Not Rocket Science With MansionBet Handicap in which KING OF ARMS can make a successful debut on turf.
John Gosden's son of Kingman, who is closely related to the very useful Kick On, improved with every start over the winter finishing a running-on third to last week's 1000 Guineas also-ran Shimmering at Lingfield before winning his maiden at Kempton - form which was boosted by third-placed Win O'Clock at Haydock earlier in the week.
On his latest start, King Of Arms went very close to making all in a three-runner event at Wolverhampton where he was denied on the line by Godolphin's Never Alone who had won his previous start at the course. Third-placed Breguet Boy was beaten just a short head next time and is now rated 76 which suggests the selection could be well handicapped here with the likelihood of further improvement to come.
Society Lion, an impressive winner at Yarmouth in heavy ground over seven furlongs last October, represents a strong team and is likely to head the market even though that form has taken a couple of knocks since.
Later on, AWAY HE GOES is fancied to maintain an almost perfect record so far in the Watch And Bet With MansionBet At Newbury Handicap.
The son of Farhh has been off the course since last July but ran very well first time out last season when, not surprisingly, finding the subsequent St Leger winner Logician too strong at Newmarket.
On his next start over a mile-and-a-quarter on this course, Away He Goes pulled off an unlikely success as he was stuck in behind rivals for some time before picking up impressively to beat Passion And Glory with the smart Hamish a close third.
That performance suggested he would relish a step up to this distance of a mile-and-a-half and so it proved when he gamely confirmed his superiority over Passion And Glory on 6lb worse terms in a small field at Newmarket. Given that his old rival went on to win twice subsequently and is now rated 93, Away He Goes looks on a really competitive mark here off 95 and, having shown a tendency to drift a little under pressure, cheek-pieces are now fitted for the first time.
