RACING

Matt Brocklebank

Chris Wall does well with his late-maturing fillies and BLACK LOTUS looks the next cab off the rank. She’s still 6l higher than for her most recent win but looks capable of scaling greater heights still and can see off some well-touted three-year-olds in York’s SkyBet Britain’s Most Popular Online Bookmaker EBF Stallions Fillies’ Handicap.

She caught the eye running on well in a hot race at Newmarket last time, form which has been franked considerably, and stepping back up to 10 furlongs on the Knavesmire will play to her strengths. David Allan – with a tidy 29% strike-rate (6-21) for the yard and who won on her last year – being back in the saddle on Saturday is another small positive but there’s already more than enough like.

Ben Linfoot

David Menuisier had three winners from three runners at Sandown on Thursday evening and the in-form Nuit St Georges can continue the hot stable form on the July Course.

A winner at Sandown himself on his seasonal reappearance off a mark of 79, he ran well in defeat when third subsequently at Haydock where he tried to give 7lb to the winning filly Vindolanda.

That wasn’t a bad effort at all, he looks like holding his form despite edging up the weights, and I’m happy to give him a chance to get back on the winning trail here as he should get the race run to suit just sitting off the likely front-runner Charlie D.

Menuisier has a fine record in Newmarket handicaps, winning seven at over 21 per cent – five of those were on the July Course.

Simon Holt

Mark Johnston's stable-star is another horse with a good course record having beaten Addeybb in this race last year

Elarqam looked as good as ever when going down by a short-head to Lord North (subsequent winner of the Prince Of Wales's Stakes) at Haydock first time out but then ran like an obvious non-stayer in the Hardwicke Stakes at the royal meeting over a mile-and-a-half.

Back over this course and distance, he can again see off Telecaster, as well as other decent rivals who all have a bit to find on official ratings.

GREYHOUNDS

Joe Nordoff - Timeform

He gave short-priced favourite backers a few anxious moments prior to tasting success last week, having to work hard to reel in the trail-blazing Schooldays, posting a Timeform rating 123 in the process.

Kevin Hutton’s brindle finds himself with an excellent opportunity of leading up and the move in to orange will hold no fears. His current Timeform Master Rating stands out above this evening’s rivals on 137, his nearest rival Bubbly Angel currently TF 123 and it would come as a disappointment where he not to emerge victorious.

FOOTBALL

Remember the Premier League season concludes on Sunday, here are our best bets a day ahead.

Joe Townsend - Chelsea v Wolves

Chelsea only need a point to secure a Champions League spot, so will not be throwing everything forward in the first period.

Wolves are a naturally cagey team, especially away from home. Added to this, seven of Wolves past 10 games have been goalless at the break, with the three that didn't quite make it seeing goals scored in the 43rd, 45th and 41st minutes - so don't be scared to cash out.

Joe Townsend - Leicester v Manchester United

Leicester's two recent home wins have seen tackle king Wilfred Ndidi crunch into six Crystal Palace players and 10 (yes TEN) from Sheffield United. Ndidi 6+ tackles at 21/10 therefore looks inviting.

If Ndidi's 4.0 tackles per game average (123 season total) makes him king, then Man United's Aaron Wan Bissaka is a prince at 3.6 (124 season total). Stick them together and you've got your best bet.

George Pitts - Manchester City v Norwich

City have scored 10 goals in the first 15 minutes this season, while finding the back of the net a total of 27 times in the opening half hour.

After losing to Norwich in September, City will be gunning for swift, hard vengeance, so it could be a painful Premier League exit for the visitors.

UFC

Kieran Cobley - Fight Island 3 Main card

Darren Till typically comes out in a southpaw stance, allowing him to find the target with a big left hand and this is something that can be a problem for fighters coming out in an orthodox stance.

When fighting against a southpaw, orthodox fighters can be left wide open on one side, leaving them vulnerable to big left hand punches and left leg body kicks, and that will be Till’s key to victory.

Till is likely to be passive, waiting for Whittaker to engage, before slipping his shots and countering with his own shots and walking Whittaker down, and this is likely to occur over and over again.

William Dean - Fight Island 3 Prelims card

Tom Aspinall has the opportunity to burst onto the scene on Saturday night with a win over Jake Collier. Standing at 6'5, he is a former boxer that has previously trained with Tyson Fury, he has a great blend of both speed and power

Collier has not competed since 2017 after serving a suspension for using a performance-enhancing substance. We have seen countless occasions where fighters return from a long layoff and look like a shell of their former selves, and this will likely be the case on Saturday.

To make matters worse, Collier is moving up a weight class for this fight and it is unlikely that he will be able to compete with Aspinall’s fight-ending punches.

Overall, Aspinall has far too many advantages to ignore in this fight.
