RACING

Matt Brocklebank

Always held in high regard having been tried in Group company as a juvenile and fared quite well in what is always a tricky three-year-old season for sprinters last year.

A fine second to Wedding Date at Newmarket last summer from a mark of 101, he has been eased down to 92 now following a return to turf on the Rowley Mile last month.

Didn’t stand a chance there from his track position after missing a beat at the start but had shown the winter breathing operation had worked when beaten a neck at Wolverhampton in February.

Loves quick ground and a fast pace so lots to like at a big price here.

Ben Linfoot

John Gosden’s Haqeeqy is nicely unexposed and looks the one to be on in the bet365 Mile Handicap (1.50) at Newmarket on Saturday.

The Lope De Vega colt dips his toe into handicap company for the first time having plied his trade in novice company in three starts so far.

He’s won his two starts this season in good style, particularly impressing on the Rowley Mile last time when handling the dip well as he accounted for the 85-rated Dyami giving him 7lb.

On that evidence he could be well treated off 92 and he can get the better of Britannia runner-up Finest Sound on handicap debut.

David Ord

Owen Burrows has his team in great form right now and this son of New Approach looks the answer to the Betfred ‘Thanks To The NHS Handicap’.

He was on a roll last season until disappointing on his final start here but still ran respectably having been left with plenty to do in a tactical affair.

He’s been dropped two pounds which seems generous and he always shaped as though the step up to a mile and six would suit. He gets that here and with his yard ticking over nicely, is taken to score at the main expense of Good Tidings.

FOOTBALL

George Pitts - Premier League

The news that Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is out for the season is a huge blow for the champions given the influence he's had on them for the last two seasons really. He sets the tempo and has been especially missed when not playing since lockdown, with no crowds roaring them on.

Aston Villa were holding the champions until the midfielder came off the bench to inspire another victory, while his return to the starting line-up against Brighton saw Liverpool fly out of the traps, including scoring a stunner himself.

You still have to back Liverpool to win with their depth of quality, but add in Burnley's organisation and fairly strong defence and we are edging for under four goals in this one.

We mentioned Tomas Soucek to score at 11/2 against Newcastle last weekend, but, annoyingly, did not back him in the staking plan. He is 4/1 this time with bet365, so we are not going to miss the boat this time.

An excellent price considering he has scored twice in his last three games, and had another ruled out by VAR. In those two games, he had a combined five shots in total, then in Wednesday's poor result against Burnley, he had a further six shots.

At 4/1 against a leaky Norwich defence, it is certainly worth a shot.

Tom Carnduff - Sky Bet Championship

The Asian Handicap has Brentford at -0.5 for victory here but we can expect a more convincing victory based on recent results. Derby were fancied by many to make a charge into the play-offs, but their performance against the Baggies highlighted that they look like a team far away from promotion.

Wayne Rooney played in a more advanced position last time out but he failed to inspire a win. It's no coincidence that when Rooney struggles to play, so do his team mates, while Louie Sibley and Martyn Waghorn are expected to be missing from an already thin Derby squad.

WIGAN to beat Barnsley. Despite the off-field issues, Wigan remain one of the division's form sides and picked up victory over QPR last time out.

WEST BROM will have to respond after Leeds beat Stoke on Thursday and they are well equipped to get the better of Blackburn on Saturday.

Relegation-threatened MIDDLESBROUGH are picking up wins again, securing victory in two of their four games under Neil Warnock. This week sees them host a Bristol City side with little to play for.

We are backing QPR to bounce back from defeat as they take on an inconsistent Sheffield Wednesday.

GREYHOUNDS

FIGHT THE POWER's (Trap 1) trial exploits have been workmanlike rather than spectacular, yet that is understandable on the back of his enforced absence/lack of course knowledge and crucially they are improving week-by-week. Carol Weatherall’s charge tops the Timeform ratings and holds the aces on the sectional clock by our reckoning, so we’re hopeful he can take full advantage of his draw on the rails inside a slow starter.

KING SHEERAN, the son of Eden The Kid, has returned in good order, capitalising on a gift in A1 company at home track Central Park before impressing on the clock in C&D trials and bringing his trapping boots to the party. Boasting a present Timeform rating of 130 he is narrowly favoured ahead of Antigua Breeze (Trap 6, TF 129) who should also put the pace to the race, and Bockos Doomie who tops our figures on 136 but will need to be sharp at the boxes himself on the comeback trail from the white jacket.

UFC

Kieran Cobley - UFC Fight Island main card

These men have gone to decisions a combined 35 times, meaning they have fought for at least three rounds.

You also have to consider the strengths of Usman as a factor in this bet. 'The Nigerian Nightmare' has very impressive cardio and prefers for fights to be longer affairs; just look at his performances against Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington for evidence of that.

Usman also has the option of just holding Masvidal with his wrestling if the fight isn’t going his way, with a 50% takedown accuracy and an average of 3.44 takedown attempts per fight, and I firmly expect this one to go beyond the third round.

William Dean - Fight Island prelims

I am inclined to believe Salikhov will have the slight advantage on Saturday. The Russian’s technique is flawless and he sets up his counter shots with great intelligence. Zaleski has a reputation for stunning finishes but his ability to throw caution to the wind could be his undoing here. His striking defence has always been questionable. In his last two fights, he has defended just 51% of the strikes he has faced.

I am expecting a competitive fight between two exciting styles, but ultimately Salikhov should find the cleaner shots and have a better chance at landing a knockout blow.
