RACING
Matt Brocklebank
Max Vega – 4.55 Epsom
The 2020 Investec Derby looks ripe for an upset and Max Vega appears the most underestimated horse capable of at least reaching the frame.
This, of all years, looks a reasonable one to ignore a below-par prep run and, based on juvenile form including an impressive win in the Zetland Stakes at Newmarket, Max Vega doesn’t have a mass amount to find with the market principals.
He can give Ralph Beckett and jockey Harry Bentley a dream debut Derby runner.
Ben Linfoot
Reputation looks an interesting stable debutant for Ian Williams in the closing race at Epsom on Derby day.
The seven-year-old loves Epsom and won a big handicap on Derby day the year Wings Of Eagles won the feature. It’s not his only good run at the track and after falling down the weights he’s now only 2lb higher than for that success.
Williams does an excellent job at revitalising talent from other yards and he should be able to get a nice position from stall one.
David Ord
Shelir - 2.40 Haydock
This is the sort of horse David O’Meara excels with and there were definite signs he’s about to peak again at Royal Ascot last time. Held up in the Buckingham Palace Stakes he stayed on strongly to finish fifth behind Motakhayyel and the step up to a mile here will suit.
He’ll also have a strong pace to aim at, which is required given his sometimes free-going nature, and he’s won on soft ground too. Everything looks right for him.
FOOTBALL
George Pitts - Premier League
Ayew's shooting statistics make interesting reading. He averages 1.6 shots per game in the Premier League, with nearly half (23) of his 51 shots on target. In individual games, he had four against Burnley on Monday, one (a goal) against Bournemouth, three (one goal) against Watford and earlier in the season he had as many as seven in one game against Newcastle.
He is their top goalscorer with nine goals and often plays near-full 90 minutes under Roy Hodgson, usually leading the line or in a supporting role to the main forward.
The Pogba-Fernandes combination is a narrative being picked up a lot and the latter was keen to play it down on Tuesday, but his arrival from Sporting Lisbon has given Pogba the kick he needed.
Of Pogba's 16 shots in 10 Premier League appearances this term, eight have been from outside the area. We know he is not afraid of shooting on sight in and around the 18-yard box and with the freedom he has in this three-man midfield he could find the space to exploit a declining Bournemouth.
Tom Carnduff - Sky Bet Championship
Ameobi posted a huge total of eight shots during the first meeting between the two in November, of which two were on target.
The last two games have seen him have a total of six shots, one on target in the win against the Terriers, and the open nature of this game will allow for opportunities at both ends.
Sporting Life ACCA
BRENTFORD and Wigan are both in strong form, but the hosts are fancied for success.
FULHAM are aiming for back-to-back victories as they welcome Birmingham, who have little to play for.
LUTON have enjoyed good results since the break and know they need three points in their survival bid as they face Reading.
BARNSLEY, who beat play-off hopefuls Blackburn last time out, travel to Stoke, who have failed to win since the restart.
