Why is Royal Ascot important?
Royal Ascot is the major summer meeting in the British Flat season, featuring five days of some of the most prestigious events in the sport's calendar.
It is typically also renowned for its significant status in the fashion industry and its overall pageantry. It is often referred to as the highlight of the British summer social scene.
Each of the five days of Royal Ascot traditionally begins with the Royal Procession at 2.00pm, when the King and other members of the royal family will arrive down the straight mile in the Royal Landaus, accompanied by the playing of the National Anthem and the raising of the Royal Standard. This was started in 1825 by King George IV.
