2:20 Hexham

Many of these are hard to win with and the field has amassed just four wins between them from 90 runs in the last two years. Les’s Legacy is on a losing run that stretches back two years now, but he’s well worth chancing back at a track that suits. His overall record at Hexham reads 5411225268 and that improves to 411222 when confined to Class4/5 handicap hurdles at 2m/2m4f.

Les’s Legacy showed definite signs of a revival on his most recent run at Catterick. Beaten a shade under nine lengths there, he couldn’t go with the leaders as they quickened off the turn, but he stayed on at one pace all the way to the line, looking in need of a stiffer test. He’ll get that here, and it’s pleasing to note that both of trainer Susan Corbett’s runners finished in the frame at big prices over the weekend.

Timeform Horses To Follow

3:50 Hexham

This won’t take much winning, and Coolmoyne looks the one to be with.

A normally sound-jumping prominent runner, he came good over this C&D last May and looked very much like having a good season after his first run for Sara Ender, finishing a close second at Sedgefield. Sadly, two lesser efforts followed and he was given wind surgery back in January. That seems to have done the trick, as he bounced back to form to finish a length second at Doncaster over a trip on the short side for him last time and for all he was a little flattered to fish so close to the idling winner, you can’t argue with the way he came away from the third after the last, looking very much like a step back up to three miles would suit.

The handicapper has, quite generously, left him off the same mark and he can take advantage of that here.

3:35 Taunton

I seem to be finding horses that find winning hard for today’s column, which should send auld Delargy into his normal morning frenzy quicker than is usually the case, but he’s going to find it hard to argue a case against Mr Zee as an each-way shout here.

His last two runs have suggested he’s on the way back to form, and his third over three furlongs further here was a very solid effort, finding only the fast-improving Grenadier Jed and the similarly well-handicapped (we put him up as a bet that day) Babatunde too good. Beaten 6½ lengths, there was daylight back to anything else, and merely a repeat of that would give him a chance in a race that looks up for grabs. The drop back to two miles shouldn’t be any issue, but what might be is the price this morning; he’s been well backed and is pretty much half his overnight price now. Clearly has a chance, but at current prices he can win without our money on.
