- OUTER BANKS - 3.53 Wetherby to place (4 places)
- HENRYSBROTHERJACK - 5.10 Bangor to win
- MASTEROFGREYGOOSE - 7.00 Kempton to win
HENRYSBROTHERJACK - 5.10 Bangor (NAP)
Winners of conditional jockeys' races don't pick up a penalty (unless in another restricted race usually), something that has been exploited by Sam Thomas whose C'Est Different seeks a hat-trick elsewhere on the card; as such, it takes the eye that HENRYSBROTHERJACK holds an entry for Sunday. A winner on his third start in handicap company, he found everything happening too quickly at Market Rasen last time when a beaten favourite but returned to more testing ground over a new trip that, as a half-brother to a three mile winner, he should relish, better is expected.
BOBBY'S NELSON - 1.33 Wincanton (Abandoned)
OUTER BANKS - 3.53 Wetherby
Nine of the 20 horses Stuart Edmunds has sent up the A1 have finished first or second which bodes well for the chances of OUTER BANKS on his handicap debut. He was well held on his point debut at Lingstown but the two that finished ahead of him have won Fontwell bumpers while the winner of his second start between the flags is now with Paul Nicholls. Outer Banks shaped encouragingly behind an inmate of Nicholls' on his second Rules start and although he struggled in a warm race last time, he's done enough to expect him to be competitive now handicapping over a trip he's bred to appreciate.
MASTEROFGREYGOOSE - 7.00 Kempton
The market will likely reveal plenty but Pursuit Of Truth could be a decent recruit for Kevin Philippart de Foy as an unexposed sort who is bred to be a good bit better than he's shown to date. This trip is likely to be a bare minimum for him though and preference is for MASTEROFGREYGOOSE. He has a little to prove after two slightly underwhelming runs this winter, his first starts since July, but the promise of his first two eyecatching runs here and at Chelmsford aren't forgotten and returning to this track over a trip that he's expected to relish is the time to chance him.
ENTITY OF SUBSTANZ – 4.53 Ludlow (NAP)
Dan Skelton seems to be finding the key to ENTITY OF SUBSTANZ and it might just all come together for him in the Ian Meadow’s 65th Year Handicap Hurdle at Ludlow on Thursday. Put in his place by a typical Sue Smith embryonic staying chaser last time in a three-mile handicap hurdle at Wetherby, he shaped nicely the time before at Market Rasen and dropping back to 2m5f could work the oracle.
BRIAN THE SNAIL – 2.45 Newcastle
Old BRIAN THE SNAIL is still churning out good performances at the age of 11 and he could notch his 14th win in the 6f handicap at Newcastle (2.45). He ran a cracker in second at Wolverhampton just 10 days ago so he’s in good form and he likes Newcastle with his last win coming here. He’s nicely drawn with pace to his inside and with the talented Warren Fentiman taking 7lb off it would be no surprise if the grey can swoop down the outside to claim the spoils.
SPACE VOYAGE – 4.10 Taunton
SPACE VOYAGE can go in again for Olly Murphy and Sean Bowen in the Freda Woolley Memorial Mares’ Handicap Chase at Taunton. The eight-year-old bolted up returned to fences last time at Huntingdon and even off revised terms runner-up Ede’iffs Rock has a real job on to reverse that form. The selection looks to have more to offer in this sphere and Murphy has found her a very nice opportunity in this 0-120 where she could simply outclass them.
WILLOW’S KISS – 6.00 Chelmsford
I don’t think it would be that much of a surprise to see improvement from WILLOW’S KISS on handicap debut in the 7.00 Chelmsford. She’s qualified for handicaps on the back of her second and third career runs early this year and after running well sent off 250/1 here in January she was better again at Lingfield last time beaten just less than three lengths. She was outpaced that day after being keen early, but I like the way she finished last time and if she improves for that experience she could get involved from an opening mark of 60.
