Andrew Asquith has the best bets from around the tracks for Tuesday and his Nap runs at the Cheltenham Festival.
Tuesday selections
PUTURHANDSTOGETHER – 4.40 Cheltenham (NAP)
A maximum field of 22 will head to post for the Fred Winter on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival and one horse who looks particularly well treated is the Joseph O’Brien-trained PUTURHANDSTOGETHER.
O’Brien has already won the race twice, including 12 months ago, so he knows how to ready one and Puturhandstogether has a very appealing profile.
He was a near useful performer on the Flat, winning a mile and a quarter handicap at the Curragh from a mark of 79 last summer, and he has made a promising start over hurdles.
Puturhandstogether built on the promise of his debut in this sphere when opening his account at Cork in December, jumping better and travelling strongly and having much more in hand than the official margin implied. That form was boosted when his stablemate and runner-up Turn And Finish won next time out and the fifth also won next time.
He very much caught the eye when second at Fairyhouse last time, too, not at all given a hard time but again impressing with how he travelled. That run didn’t get anywhere near the bottom of him and an opening mark of 130 looks perfectly fair. A strongly-run, big-field handicap will bring out the best in him and he must have an excellent chance.
CAVE ARTICLE – 4.18 Sedgefield
CAVE ARTICLE landed some nice bets when opening his account over fences over this course and distance in December, relishing a marked step up in trip, always travelling strongly and just ridden out on the run-in after being produced to lead at the last fence.
He ran at least as well in defeat when third over a similar trip at Catterick last time, looking the likeliest winner two from home – he traded 1.10 in-running on Betfair – but he was caught on the run-in by a back-to-form, well-handicapped 12-year-old who has won again since.
Cave Article remains totally unexposed, especially in relation to his three rivals, and the return to this more galloping track should suit.
HARRYELLA – 6.30 Wolverhampton
HARRYELLA hadn’t been competitive in maiden and novice company, but he was stronger in the betting on his handicap debut over a mile at Chelmsford in December, and he duly showed improved form to get off the mark.
Admittedly, that was just a modest contest, but he travelled strongly and had plenty in hand at the line, proving an opening mark of 52 all wrong.
He has been given plenty of time since, and a subsequent 4lb rise in the weights looks more than fair. His pedigree suggests there should be more to come at this slightly longer trip, too, and he’s one to note for an in-form yard.
THE ORGANISER – 8.15 Southwell
THE ORGANISER was rated as high as 95 in his pomp for Karl Burke prior to losing his way when trained in Ireland and he has made an interesting trainer switch since.
Edward Bethell has proven track record with new recruits and The Organiser starts out for the yard from a career-low mark of 70. New connections picked him up relatively cheaply (€12,000) but if bouncing back to anywhere near the pick of his form he’ll be hard to contain at this level.
Interestingly, he has an entry back at Southwell on Friday, which gives him the opportunity to run under a penalty if winning here, and he is one to note in the market on what is another wise mediocre card.
