ETHICAL DIAMOND - 2.15 Ayr (NAP)
ETHICAL DIAMOND was a notable eyecatcher in the County Hurdle, doing all of his best work at the finish to finish fourth, faring by far and away the best of those held-up in rear. The British handicapper appeared to have dealt him a harsh hand for his maiden hurdle win prior to that and has bumped him up another 1 lb but his rating looks fair enough off the back of that performance and this smart flat performer can land this valuable prize before taking in some decent races on the level.
KDEUX SAINT FRAY - 1.35 Bangor
It's a bit much to expect KDEUX SAINT FRAY to follow in the steps of Haiti Couleurs, last year's winner, but Anthony Honeyball's charge is a talented individual in his own right. His burgeoning career hit a bump when stepped up to Grade 2 company at Cheltenham on soft ground last time but he had done everything right in winning a bumper and a hurdle on good ground prior to that. He can get back on track dropped in grade on better ground with the step up in trip not expected to pose an issue on this sharp track.
SIMMERING - 2.00 Newbury
A good renewal and a big day for SIMMERING who sets the standard on her juvenile form. She's had more racing than many but progressed nicely, winning a Group 3 and Group 2 before chasing home Lake Victoria in the Moyglare. A mile on easy ground didn't look ideal at ParisLongchamp on her final start but this should be more her cup of tea and enable her to utilise her turn of foot. Ollie Sangster has sent out a couple of winners in recent days which is encouraging and Simmering can win this before trying her luck in the Guineas.
BLENHEIM STAR - 6.30 Brighton
William Knight has yet to saddle a winner this season but a handful of his runners have hit the frame to suggest the yard may not be too far away from going through the gears and the chance is taken that BLENHEIM STAR is ready to go at the first time of asking. The booking of Luke Morris is encouraging given his pretty reasonable strike rate for the stable in recent seasons while Blenheim Star, a dual course winner, is now just 3 lbs above her last winning mark.
COMA CLUSTER - 6.50 Nottingham
There are a few potential improvers in this line-up including COMA CLUSTER. A half-sister to useful stayer Uxmal, she didn't show a huge amount in two back-end maidens for Sir Michael Stoute nor on her debut for this stable at Wolverhampton in December but nor were those runs devoid of promise and they were largely in line with market expectations. Her stable has started the season in fine form and better is expected now handicapping.
ROCK OF ENGLAND - 7.10 Thirsk
ROCK OF ENGLAND runs this track well with a win and two further top three finishes from five visits and looks poised for a bold bid with a pipe-opener under his belt. He shaped encouragingly on that return at Southwell (0-3 on the all-weather) and connections will no doubt have been pleased that he was dropped by 2 lbs which brings him back to 74, a rating he has only run off once when winning at Hamilton in June 2023 for previous connections.
