BORN IN THE WEST – 4.30 Catterick (NAP)
Sam England’s BORN IN THE WEST can get off the mark for his career in the catterickbridge.co.uk Handicap Hurdle at Catterick on Wednesday. The grey six-year-old looks a future chaser but the former winning pointer is getting used to hurdles and he’s improved up in trip to 2m4f on his last two starts finishing second on both occasions. With that experience under his belt he could improve again here and with the race expected to be run to suit he can get the win from a prominent sit.
WATERMELON SUGAR – 3.12 Lingfield
Chelsea Banham has found a good opportunity for WATERMELON SUGAR to follow up his recent course and distance win in the 6f handicap at Lingfield (3.12). His easy victory last time out took his course and distance record to 2-2 and as long as he gets a nice even pace to run at he should be seen to good effect again. He certainly looked the best he’s been for two years last time, which suggests there might still be mileage in his revised rating of 67.
PORT ERIN – 7.30 Kempton
It could be worth taking a chance on PORT ERIN in the 1m London Mile Series Qualifier at Kempton. If he can settle in the hands of Hollie Doyle he can improve returning to a mile course he conquered a few years ago when trained by the Crisfords. After going off the boil he has returned to form for Tony Carroll, who got a win out of him at Chelmsford four starts ago where he beat subsequent winner (x2) Elterwater. That form gives him a chance from bottom weight in this.
