SALVER - 14:20 Sandown (NAP)
Gary Moore's SALVER, placed in the 2024 Triumph Hurdle, ended up splitting Blueking d'Oroux and Kitzbuhel in the Select Hurdle on the final day of last season at Sandown and I thought there were plenty of positives to take from his recent chasing debut effort at Exeter. Lulamba ultimately proved far too quick and classy for him there but it was a respectable start from a horse bound to appreciate stepping up to three miles. He gets that here and will also be happier on softer conditions, provided the forecast rain arrives before racing.
NO MORE BOLERO - 13:33 Sedgefield
James Owen's horses can be hard to contain once getting on a roll and NO MORE BOLERO opened his jumps account at the first time of asking for his current yard when scoring at Ludlow 11 days ago. The assessor has whacked him with a 15lb hike but getting him out again quickly under a penalty means he's 8lb well-in here and is surely going to take plenty of beating under Nathan Howie who claims 3lb.
JACK HOOLA - 14:33 Exeter
JACK HOOLA has turned his form around since being fitted with a visor, winning twice and filling the runner-up spot in between, and it's fascinating to see him now sporting blinkers for the first time. Having seemingly not been doing a great deal while out in front late on at Southwell last month, there must be a chance the new headgear helps him focus on the job even more and it's not hard to see Tom Lacey's progressive five-year-old defying a 6lb rise in the ratings.
HAVANA BLUE - 4.45 Newcastle
HAVANA BLUE shaped quite encouragingly in fifth over this course and distance last month and he's been eased another 1lb in the weights on the back of it. That puts him on a career-low mark (82) and 2lb lower than when successful at Beverley in August 2024. He's unexposed on the all-weather and could step forward quite considerably on this second start back following another breathing operation.
