3.50 Limerick

On his chase debut at Galway, FAVORI DE CHAMPDOU jumped better than eventual winner Affordale Fury until getting in too tight at the penultimate fence and he fought back to go down by a hard-fought length and a half to the Albert Bartlett runner-up.

He followed that by beating Sandor Clegane and Flooring Porter in the Grade 2 Florida Pearl Novice Chase at Punchestown when again impressing with his economical jumping and the manner in which he forged clear late in the piece.

Favori De Champdou had Affordale Fury and Quilixios well in arrears that day and was made favourite for the National Hunt Chase on the back of that effort, but the wheels rather fell off after that excellent start and he disappointed in Grade 1 company at Leopardstown and again in the Ten Up at Navan, although he had excuses there, going around the unfavoured inside.

A faller in the Irish Grand National on his next start, he had a confidence booster when winning a weak Grade 3 at Limerick in April where he finished his season.

Favori De Champdou showed his best form in the first half of the season, and it was a similar story in novice hurdles, running a cracker on debut before missing a season and then taking his first three starts in 2022/23 before flopping at Cheltenham, and both his poor runs last year came on left-handed tracks.

He’s yet to be placed when going that way round but has a career record going right-handed over jumps of 2111421F1, the unplaced effort a good run in a Grade 1 hurdle won by Gaelic Warrior from Affordale Fury.

The selection has a fine record fresh and clearly comes to hand early, so he looks a decent bet to go well first time in the BoyleSports JT McNamara Munster National Handicap Chase. Especially as many of the better winter opportunities for horses of his ability come on tracks like Navan (Troytown) and Leopardstown, which clearly don’t suit, and I’d imagine this has been a specific target for Gordon Elliott’s nine-year-old.

4.20 Sedgefield

JESUITIQUE looks to have been readied with today's Durham National in mind, and after a better round of jumping on his reappearance at Worcester, something that rather held him back last year, he looks ready to take advantage of the huge weight pull he gets with Tommie Beau in their running in this last year.

Tommie Beau won this by a head from No Cruise Yet in 2023, with the well-backed Jesuitique going off favourite and finishing a further five lengths away in third.

He made a couple of mistakes at a key time that didn't help his cause, and finished lame, which is excuse enough for the defeat, but this year finds himself a huge 18lb better off with Tommie Beau, which ought to be enough to reverse the form with a clear round.
