Racing betting tips: Monday March 31
1pt e.w. Lordsbridge Blu in 6.30 Wolverhampton at 14/1 (William Hill 1/5 1,2,3,4) - min 12/1
5.00 Newcastle
Poor offerings over the jumps today, with thirteen races at two meetings not producing a double-figure field between them. I know things get better later this week, but still...
The nearest I can come to a bet is Wild Nephin here at Newcastle. A couple of times earlier in the season there had been good money around for him, firstly when bumping into another big gamble in the shape of Owl Of Athens at Uttoxeter and then just three days later at Chepstow but on both occasions, he disappointed.
WATCH: RELIVE THE CLOSEST GRAND NATIONAL OF ALL TIME!
The 2012 Grand National was the closest in history and winning jockey Daryl Jacob relives his emotions during this fascinating interview complete with thrilling race footage.
Three very quick runs on the Flat followed, all over trips too short, but it looked like connections might have found the key when he turned in a much better effort when second to the rejuvenated Tara Iti at Huntingdon last time, a combination of a tongue-tie and better ground seemingly both helping his cause.
If they now have him on track then he has every chance here, for all that another furlong or two wouldn’t have gone amiss for this point-to-point winner.
6.30 Wolverhampton
Sean Woods seems to have his team in good order and that bodes well for the chances of LORDSBRIDGE BLU here.
He’s clearly had his issues as we didn’t see him on a racecourse until a 4yo, but he ran well on debut last year and continued to progress throughout the season, including an easy six-length win over this C&D last September.
He stays further than this, as he showed when filling a minor placing twice more here later in the year, but this looks like being run at a strong pace and that should suit him well.
After just six starts there might even be a bit more to come from him this year and although a wide draw isn’t ideal, he should be able to get cover easily enough and it should be too much of a concern.
