Recent success

Last week's tip Managing Director landed some fabulous bets in the 5f nursery at Thirsk on Saturday.

Relishing the drop from 6f with front-running tactics, the highly regarded colt exploited a mark of 74 and can surely win more races. Bryan Smart and Charlie Bond have always believed in this quality son of Cotai Glory, who was clearly going best at halfway before winning unchallenged.

Managing Director is an imposing three-year-old with plenty of scope for progress. It was easy to forgive last months's defeat from a high draw at York and this 150,000 euros breeze-up buy will do even better if produced off a fast gallop. A half-brother to eight winners, Managing Director is one to keep with next season.

It was similarly thrilling witnessing fellow notebook horse Warda Jamila beating elders in the 1m2f fillies' handicap at Haydock on Thursday.

Callum Hutchinson's mount dwelt at the start but was soon in midfield and going well early in the straight. The highly progressive filly didn't enjoy a clear run over two-out but made headway when pushed along and ran on to lead on the post. She won't go up much for this narrow victory off 85 and can keep improving towards Pattern class.

Two more additions

Cymbidium landed a good punt when beating colts and geldings in the 1m nursery at Thirsk on Saturday; she looks sure to win more races.

David O'Meara's unexposed juvenile made headway from midfield over two-out and produced an impressive turn of foot having looked one-paced early in the straight. Leading inside the final furlong, Cymbidium won going away and benefited from this step up in trip on nursery debut.

Across the card, Filibustering endured a luckless run when fifth in the three-year-old 1m6f handicap at Haydock. Amie Waugh's mount was locked on the inner over two-out and forced to ease to the outer when the leaders were quickening. Keeping on under hand riding, Filibustering looks ahead of his rating and has the option of going back up in trip.

Three Friday fancies

Connections of Lexington Blitz could take the bold step of pitching the highly progressive colt into the Group Two Flying Childers at Doncaster on Friday.

He very easily defied a penalty in a novice at Chepstow two weeks ago and the Windsor maiden he won has produced nursery winners. Lexington Blitz landed huge funds for the Notebook that day(18/1) and has been a superb breeze-up buy at 67,000 euros.

Min Huna entered the notebook last week and has a big chance up in trip in the 1m4f fillies' handicap at Doncaster. She comfortably exploited an opening mark of 78 against older geldings at Sandown last month. Expect improvement.

Also on Friday, Meleri deserves a major change of fortune at Sandown after luckless seconds at that track and at Goodwood. Jim Boyle's consistent five-year-old mare is worth another try in the 1m2f handicap and conditions will suit after recent rain.

Meleri, who needs to be produced late, was making headway from rear when not finding a clear passage over two-out at Goodwood. This mare is handicapped to win.
