Report

Out Do struck gold in the ultra-competitive Wokingham Stakes for northern-based trainer David O'Meara and jockey Daniel Tudhope.

The eight-year-old was seventh in the King's Stand at last year's Royal meeting, but a falling rating has helped him slot back into handicap company.

He performed creditably when fourth on his latest outing at Newmarket and he was 25/1 for his latest big-race test.

Tudhope took his time in the group racing on the far side of the track before Out Do was unleashed and he picked up well to claim victory.

Steady Pace filled the runner-up spot, while Projection fared best of those that raced towards the stands side in third. Polybius was fourth, with Danzeno fifth and Edward Lewis sixth.

Reaction

Tudhope said: "He travelled very well into the race and he's done it nicely.

"I didn't want to hit the front too soon as he wanders around, but he got the job done.

"I knew he'd won and I'm pleased for the owner (Evan Sutherland), who is a fantastic owner.

"It's brilliant for the team."

O'Meara said: "It meant an awful lot. It was fantastic.

"There's a brilliant young team looking after this horse at home. He only scraped in at the bottom and we were delighted he did.

"A couple of years ago he broke his jaw and he had a bit of a bad year last year, but I thought he was coming back to himself.

"It was touch and go whether he was going to get in the race on Monday, so we declared him for Chelmsford earlier in the week.

"When the confirmations came out he had four in front him and then when they declared on Thursday, thankfully he made the cut.

"He's a very fast horse and won a Listed race over five furlongs in the past.

"We were debating whether he's better over five or six, but he just seems to be getting a little bit outpaced at five and back at six he looks happier."
