Ascot Saturday preview: Nicky Henderson team

Unibet ambassador Nicky Henderson discusses the chances of some of his star names that could line up at Ascot’s two-day December meeting this week.

Dusart (2.30 Ascot, Friday)

He was impressive in what was deemed beforehand to be a very good race (at Newbury). I think there were a lot of fancied horses in there, so we thought the Kennel Gate was the obvious port of call.

It was obvious when we started working him that he was a talented youngster and Ian Ferguson had done a wonderful job with him, he had taught him everything. Rather than wasting time with Bumpers, we could get straight on with it. If we come through this race, we know probably what we are going to try and do next.

Allart (3.05 Ascot, Friday)

He has been very good and was fifth in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle last year. He is very talented and is quick. He has been schooling very well.

Caribean Boy (1.15 Ascot, Saturday)

This ought to suit him well. He has only had two runs in novice chases, so we have got one more stepping stone race - they are good races for these horses, who don’t have a lot of experience.

I think Daryl (Jacob) feels two and a half miles is plenty for him. He is a big bruiser of a horse and he gallops along. He beat a pretty good horse at Newbury last time, but what got everybody’s mind ticking was the time that he did it in. I am not a great clock man, but they all say it was a phenomenal time and yet all he was doing was bowling along in his own rhythm. I think the Ryanair would be the dream at the end of the day.

Buzz (3.35 Ascot, Saturday)

In the past we have always thought you have to put him there on the line at the last minute, because he pulls up on the run-in when he hits the front. At Ascot (last time out) he got to the front and instead of nearly pulling up, he galloped off. He was impressive.

What he loves is a really strong pace, flat out two miles, where the leaders have got to come back at you. If they are going away from you, he is chasing them. He likes it when the race falls apart up front and that’s what happened at Ascot.
