Goddess To Storm Home

Indefatigable produced a strong rally against the stands rail when landing the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham in March, and she is odds on to win the Listed mares’ hurdle at Kempton, with Paul Webber staying loyal to winning rider Rex Dingle despite the fact he cannot utilise his claim. She has a clear chance at the weights, and wasn’t disgraced in a Listed Flat race at Lingfield last month, so her prospects look solid, but she has looked ideally suited by 2m5f so far, and she’s far from certain to appreciate the extended 3m here.

At the prices, I prefer the claims of Storm Goddess (2.00 Kempton), who caught me eye when fourth to Captain Tom Cat at Cheltenham last month, passing half the field after the last, and she proved that was no fluke when landing a Pertemps qualifier here last time.

I thought she actually outstayed them after again finding herself outpaced between the last two hurdles, and she produced a strong run to grab the spoils on the line despite her task looking hopeless even after the last (traded 1000 in the run). The step up in trip is an unknown for her as well, but the manner in which she saw things out last time suggests that 3m around here will suite her ideally.

Generous Price For Repeat

Henry Oliver has seen his fortunes take a turn for the better recently, and the win of Diamond Brig at Uttoxeter yesterday was his second from his last five runners, and that bolsters confidence that Generous Day (2.35 Kempton) can win the Racingtv.com Handicap Chase for the second year running. The gelding seems pretty inconsistent, but he needs good ground, and some of his poor efforts have coincided with barren spells for the yard, while his record over fences in this class reads three wins from five runs. He’s dropped 1lb below his last winning mark, and is overpriced despite already attracting some attention in the market.

Domino Can Knock ‘em Down

The Domino Effect (3.10 Kempton) really ought to be favourite for the Wise Betting @racingtv.com Handicap Hurdle, having not been seen to best effect on his latest start over C&D last time. That was a falsely run contest, and he got outpaced before staying on strongly late in the day. It’s unlikely that there will be a lack of pace here with the solid Tel’Art almost certain to take them along, and the others won’t want to give him an easy lead.

The Domino Effect has shown gradually progressive form in qualifying, and has the scope to do better still, particularly when seeing a fence, but an opening mark of 120 is very fair, and he looks much better value that early market leader Ratface McDougal, who won a fairly uncompetitive contest at Musselburgh last time.
