Brian Meehan has had to put immediate plans on hold for his unbeaten colt Cepheus.
The well-regarded Newmarket maiden winner has Group One entries next month in both the Darley Dewhurst Stakes and Vertem Futurity Trophy.
But having caused a stir on his only racecourse start to date, with a 25-1 victory over Charlie Appleby's odds-on shot and subsequent winner Volkan Star, Cepheus is just back to light cantering following a "dirty scope".
A course-and-distance return to Newmarket to take on Appleby's brilliant Pinatubo in the Dewhurst on October 12 therefore appears unlikely - although Meehan is not ruling out the possibility of a second juvenile outing before the season is done for the son of Sea The Stars.
The Manton trainer said: "We've no plan at the moment. He'd a dirty scope about two weeks ago, so he's just been getting over that.
"He's back cantering, but there's no plan."
Few connections of Dewhurst possibles have as yet professed an inclination to take on Pinatubo, who this week received a BHA rating of 128 - the highest for any two-year-old this century, after his stunning success in the National Stakes at the Curragh.
Meehan might well have done so, had Cepheus been in top form at the right time.
"I think that (Dewhurst) might be a bit soon," he said.
"But it wouldn't bother me (taking on Pinatubo) - whatever runs is obviously good enough to run.
"But I have no plans at the moment with the horse until he's back and done two or three bits of fast work."
Doncaster's Vertem Futurity, over a mile, takes place two weeks after the seven-furlong Dewhurst on October 26.
