Lil Rockerfeller in line for chasing debut at Uttoxeter

Lil Rockerfeller is set to make his chasing bow at Uttoxeter on Sunday according to trainer Neil King.

The seven-year-old is a dual Grade Two winner over hurdles and also finished second in the 2017 Stayers' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

Lil Rockerfeller demonstrated his diverse abilities when running out a 15-length winner of the Goodwood Handicap on the Flat in August, but is now set to turn his hand to a new discipline in the Gordon Horner 85th Birthday Beginners' Chase at the weekend.

King said: "He's ready to start his chasing career on Sunday, it's very exciting and he has been schooling since the spring.

"Wayne Hutchinson came in to school him on Saturday and he's taken to jumping fences really well.

"It was lovely to win at Goodwood over the summer, it was a nice bonus and it actually just reminded you of the engine that is there.

"We're just going to take it one day at a time and start building his confidence up in novice chases."

While Lil Rockerfeller is set to ply his trade over fences in the immediate future, King might consider a switch back to the smaller obstacles in December for the Grade One Long Walk Hurdle, a race in which he has finished second previously.

He added: "We wouldn't be afraid of going back over hurdles with him and one race we feel has escaped him is the Long Walk at Ascot, so that might be something to think about at Christmas.

"We will how things are going a bit nearer the time."

King also reports another stable favourite, Milansbar, to be in rude health after his summer break.

The 11-year-old won the Classic Chase at Warwick last season and was last seen finishing fifth in the hands of Bryony Frost in the Grand National at Aintree in April.

King said: "He's back in, he's has summered well and is actually in really, really good form.

"There's no immediate plans for him. He wants soft ground and a trip, so there's plenty to look at after Christmas."
