Jamie's best bets

1845 32Red Casino Handicap:

This four runner handicap is sure to be a tactical affair over the six furlong trip. It’ll take some serious improvement for the outsider Elite Shadow to take this so it looks as if it’s a three-way battle between the others. The British Lion finally got his head in front at the sixth time of asking on Wednesday on the tapeta and he’s carrying 6lb extra here and despite this being a slight drop in grade, he was well held on his only previous effort on the polytrack. Bezos was a little disappointing here last week when last of five over seven furlongs and his three previous efforts at this trip haven’t been encouraging though he has Ryan Moore in the saddle this evening which may help.

The selection therefore is BUNGEE JUMP for Kevin Ryan. This bay-filly won a claimer at Lingfield last week and the handicapper has been quite generous in letting her run off a 4lb lower mark than when third in her last handicap start. She’s raced mainly over seven furlongs in the early stages of her career but was beaten under two lengths on her only outing over this distance and if applying similar front-running tactics like last week she may well be able to run the finish out of the others with Cameron Noble able to claim a handy 5lb.

2015 100% Profit Boost At 32RedSport.com Handicap:

A punting nightmare with a 14-runner handicap to end proceedings. Sky Marshal will most probably be the popular selection with racegoers having won his last two outings, one of which was over this mile-and-a-half trip, but has to carry a further 6lb for his latest victory and that makes life tougher though is entitled to go close as he seems progressive over this trip. Rakematiz has rattled the crossbar in his last two runs and now takes a step up in trip off the same mark but will need to prove he can stay this extra yardage.

The one who looks sets to go close is the northern-raider BOGARDUS for Patrick Holmes. This seven-year old has visited this track four times previously and has yet to finish out of the places, winning once along the way over a mile-and-a-quarter.

He was third on his penultimate start and the form of that race has worked out very well with the winner scoring twice since and their were three subsequent winners in behind the selection. That was over a furlong shorter but he was upped to this trip the last day when just touched off by a neck and he’s only been raised a pound for that. He is slightly better drawn today and looks capable of playing a serious role, still racing off a 1lb lower mark than when successful here in the winter of 2015.
