Only the seven runners go to post for this five furlong dash. Union Rose remains unexposed on the all-weather having won his only start on the synthetics last week at Wolverhampton but has been raised 6lb for that neck victory so may find things slightly tougher. Last year’s winner Monumental Man has an 11-week absence to overcome if he’s to land this again but he managed to do so under similar circumstances a year ago. He’s 6lb higher than last year but has won off a 3lb higher mark back in March at Lingfield so is still handicapped to get involved. The one who brings the best form to the table though is the hat-trick seeking YOU’RE COOL. John Balding’s five year old has won his last two starts over track and trip and the form of that latest success has been franked a couple of times since with the second and third placed horses winning. His handler is clearly happy to keep sending this horse down from South Yorkshire as he seems to relish this track (three wins and four placed efforts from nine starts) and this son of Exceed And Excel can make another bold bid despite a 4lb rise and the widest draw as he’s still on the upgrade and clearly in good heart.

The last race on tonight’s card comes in the form of a class 5 handicap being run over the mile-and-a-quarter trip. Enigmatic made a pleasing handicap debut at Newcastle last week when second over a mile and is on an unchanged mark for this. He’s likely to improve especially stepping up slightly in trip. Mullarkey needs monitoring in the betting for John Best and he too is on the same mark as a recent second, this one was over course and distance and he remains on a winning mark. Stuart Williams’ Pinnata was successful over a mile here on his most recent start a month ago and is feared most racing off a 4lb higher mark but it’s THE EAGLE'S NEST who I fancy here on debut for Rae Guest. This trainer has a decent enough record with new recruits and he signed off from Richard Fahey with a victory over this distance at Newcastle. There should be more to come over this distance on his second attempt and he’s in the more than capable hands of Martin Harley and looks set to be involved from a 3lb higher mark on his first attempt on the polytrack.
