Our Friends in Newmarket: George Boughey Stable Tour

George Boughey is heading into his first full season with a trainer's licence and he gives us a handful of names that could be worth monitoring in the months ahead.

Involved

He was bought by Sam Haggas at the October Horses in Training Sale. He was trained by Dan Kubler before and was a two-time winner. He’s currently rated 77 and his work suggests he might be a little bit better than that. He looks a fun sort of horse who hopefully might be able to run in some nicer races as the year goes on.

Three C’s

He's not the highest-rated in our yard but he's one of the most prolific. He's a six-year-old by Kodiac who has won three of his last four and won four in total for me. He was a bit of a revelation this winter and I think we just found the key to him. I do think he’ll transfer the progress onto the turf this year so hopefully his winning hasn’t stopped there.

Three-year-old

Unnamed 3yo colt (Mukhadram x Blossom Mills)

He's from the family of Air Pilot and looks a really nice mile and a half horse for the summer and the back end of this year. He's a late-maturing horse and we're just starting to pick his work up now and he seems to go well. Hopefully he can be a ‘Saturday horse’ for us.

Two-year-olds

Astimegoesby (Mehmas x Chantaleen)

He’s a half-brother to a horse Jeremy Noseda trained called Bombproof who was bought by Alex Elliott. Alex also bought this horse at Doncaster. Bombproof won first time out at York pretty impressively and was favourite for the Norfolk but got an injury in the week before Ascot. This horse shows a fair level of ability, I think he’d have made his debut by now in a normal year. He's a forward, five-to-six furlong horse who we’re really looking forward to.

Susucaru (Starspangledbanner x Sugar Hiccup)

She was bought by Sam Haggas from Book 2 at Tattersalls. She had done a couple of bits of work and goes nicely. We gave her a little break but she's now back in full exercise and I hope will be ready to run as soon as we are permitted again.

Unnamed 2yo colt (Ivawood x Lady Lizabeth)

He doesn’t have an owner, he cost 13,000 euros and he’s currently got George Boughey below the door! And I’m quite happy with that at the moment, he goes well, but if someone does want to buy him then he is for sale. He was bought at Tattersalls Ireland where Hugo Palmer got some good horses, the likes of Galileo Gold and Hawksmoor, and this horse looks like a nice colt on the bits of work he’s done.
