WATCH: May 14, 2015 Dante Stakes - If it hadn't been for Frankel and Sea The Stars then Golden Horn would surely be remembered as one of the modern greats.

After winning a Nottingham maiden by a head on his one start at two, the son of Cape Cross raced eight times through a sensational Classic campaign, winning six including the Derby and missing out by narrow margins on his other two starts.

He won the Feilden nicely enough on his comeback but 2015 really began to snowball for the horse in the Dante where he proved far too quick for stablemate and race favourite Jack Hobbs, receiving a little pat down the neck from William Buick as they approached the winning line at York.

Frankie Dettori chose wrong on the Knavesmire, but took the reins for the rest of the horse's career.

WATCH: June 6, 2015 Investec Derby - It took Dettori a long time to finally win the Derby on Authorized but it's easy to forget that he had to wait another eight years to register his second success in the great Epsom Classic.

Golden Horn was a fraction keen early on but the mad gallop set by Aidan O'Brien's Hans Holbein really helped the market leader and turning Tattenham Corner you could tell Dettori just sensed they'd all fall in a heap in front of him.

He kept close tabs on old foe Jack Hobbs entering the straight and switched widest of all to make his move.

The big two both edged left heading to the final furlong but Golden Horn had too much class and ultimately kept his unblemished record in tact with an impressive display.

WATCH: July 4, 2015 Coral-Eclipse - Dropping back to 10 furlongs, a change of tactics from Dettori and the team as Golden Horn went straight to the front and dictated as he wanted.

The Grey Gatsby loomed up and was travelling menacingly passing the three pole but when the Derby winner was still in front a furlong later the writing was on the wall.

They both found plenty for pressure, to be fair, but the younger colt - in receipt of 11lb - had the legs and took a bit of pulling up after passing the post three and a half lengths to the good.

WATCH: September 12, 2015 Irish Champion Stakes - Having suffered a shock defeat to Arabian Queen in the Juddmonte International, Golden Horn bounced straight back, but not without controversy.

It was a super line-up at Leopardstown with some real star names and Dettori was bold to take them all on from the front. Cirrus Des Aigles and The Grey Gatsby didn't run their races but in Free Eagle, and then late on Found, Golden Horn had a couple serious rivals on his hands.

He didn't keep straight when push came to shove and clearly impeded Free Eagle, but for which the result may have been different (one suspects he'd have been disqualified and placed third on interference grounds in the current climate).

He held a length advantage over Found at the line, so it was still a high-class performance all things considered and he proved it in France the following month...

WATCH (below): October 4, 2015 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe - Found went on to gain her revenge over Golden Horn on what proved to be his final outing in the Breeders' Cup Turf, but first came a brilliant victory in the Arc de Triomphe.

Racing freely again and never far from the pace, Dettori had a lovely sit in second from around halfway and he never really looked like being reeled in after kicking for home as they rounded into the straight.

Pure class from horse and rider and a lesson in how to keep things simple in the saddle no matter the magnitude of the race.
