Free horse racing selections for Friday May 24

Fifth Position is Keith Hamer's best Friday bet and he has a tip for every race in the UK and Ireland.

NAP: Fifth Position 3.30 Goodwood

Next best: Rydan 4.40 Goodwood

Fifth Position looked a smart prospect when getting off the mark at Nottingham, and can prove the point by registering a Listed success at Goodwood.

Roger Varian's three-year-old goes for the British Stallion Studs EBF Cocked Hat Stakes on the back of overturning odds-on shot Space Blues by a head, after a ding-dong battle at the Colwick Park track last month.

The form looked good as the first two pulled five lengths clear of the third horse, Rhythmic Intent.

The subsequent impressive win by Space Blues in a hot handicap at York merely confirmed that.

Fifth Position may have received 7lb from the Godolphin-owned horse at Nottingham, but he had only made his racecourse debut 17 days earlier, when showing plenty of promise to take fourth place to the useful Fox Chairman.

The son of Dark Angel may not have any obvious lofty entries yet, but he clearly looks a horse for the future.

Green Power can benefit from the drop back to six furlongs by taking the Thomas Materials Bulk Excavations Handicap.

A first attempt at seven furlongs did not work out, with Green Power finishing in the ruck behind Cape Byron in an ultra-competitive - and valuable - handicap.

However, his first two runs over six furlongs this season were full of promise. A close fourth to Foolaad at Doncaster, Green Power was only beaten half a length in third place behind Flavius Titus at Newmarket.

Having only lost second position close home, this easier six can see him in an even better light.

Rydan showed no signs of stopping when scoring over a mile and three-quarters on this course three weeks ago and is already a winner over two miles - the distance of the thamesmaterials.com Handicap. Gary Moore's eight-year-old has to be the choice.

Amberine shaped well on his first run since August when third over five and a half furlongs at Bath, and races off the same mark back there in the MJ Church Waste Solutions Handicap.

Having had the rustiness brushed off that day, Malcolm Saunders' five-year-old should be a tough nut to crack.

With Caution catches the eye on her turf debut in Haydock's Joanne Kelly 50th Birthday Handicap.

James Tate's filly began her career in winning style at Lingfield in January, and duly followed up over this same six-furlong trip at Wolverhampton a month later.

She was backed to bring up the hat-trick back at Dunstall Park in March, but found one too good in Pass The Vino.

Neither winner nor second has run since. But after her break, With Caution has shown enough already to suggest she should be effective on her first step into handicap company.

Show Me Show Me can return to winning ways in the EBF Stallions VW Centre (Leeds) Ltd Youngsters Conditions Stakes at Pontefract after disappointing at Chester.

Richard Fahey's two-year-old had looked promising to say the least when landing the Brocklesby Stakes on his debut at Doncaster.

However, ground conditions did not appear to suit at Chester when he reappeared in the Lily Agnes Stakes - although he was still a fair fifth behind Great Dame, beaten a length and three-quarters. Trying six furlongs could bring out further improvement.

The lightly-raced Spark Of War may prove well-treated at a decent price for in-form trainer Keith Dalgleish in the Constant Security Services Handicap.

The four-year-old returned from a break of more than a year with a promising fourth at Musselburgh at the start of this month.

That was his first appearance since a gelding operation, and it is reassuring that he has not been rushed back to the track too quickly since.

The move up in trip, on a stiffer course, seems very likely to suit.
