It's Tattersalls Gold Cup day at the Curragh and Fran Berry has two recommendations including a special bet in the feature race.
It's Tattersalls Gold Cup day at the Curragh and while the main event is clearly all about one horse in long odds-on favourite Magical, the rest of the card is seriously competitive and I've only found a couple of bets I'm completely happy with.
The first is in the big one, where I'm heading into the 'betting without Magical' market which a lot of firms have priced up.
Buckhurst is around 6/4 and he's a horse I've always had a lot of time for but if he and Leo De Fury get into a bit of a battle with Magical then the race might be set up for something like SEARCH FOR A SONG to grab second.
She's a high-class performer on her day, as we saw last season at York and in the Irish Leger and she's definitely had excuses so far this term, being almost knocked over last time when understandably pulled up.
Dermot Weld has been really happy with her in the run up to today's race and with the ground on the yielding side, it might turn into a bit of a test and Search For A Song's stamina will come into play if ridden cold near the back of the field.
She's highly unlikely to win the event but at 11s with the favourite out of the picture then we're getting some value.
The other horse I want on side today is EDESSANN in the Manguard Plus Apprentice Handicap. Shane Crosse is only three winners away from losing his claim and this horse is really lightly-raced, especially when it comes to sprints.
His previous trainers (Weld and Michael Herrington) tried him over much longer distances earlier on but he looks a useful sprinter on recent evidence and could be up to defying an 8lb hike for his one-length win at Cork.
He's a son of Lope De Vega so should be right at home on the conditions and he looks a solid each-way proposition with five places on offer.
