A couple of bets at Dundalk today kicking off with ORCHID GARDENS in the maiden at 3.15.
This filly started off at Dundalk last winter and she shaped with promise on her three starts here, nicking some black type when third to Crossfirehurricane in February.
And although she hasn't won since, I don't think she's done anything wrong on any occasion and her couple of handicap runs in the summer were very good.
Returning to Polytrack and dropping back to a mile here should be perfect and with cheekpieces fitted, plus Sam Ewing taking 7lb off, she looks the one to be on from stall four.
Stately Home is respected and could be a good buy for the team but I don't like much else in the field.
I'm hoping trainer Mick Halford will have a good day as in division one of the mile handicap at 4.15 I like his OVERTAKE.
These handicaps are for horses that have never won. Overtake was tried in blinkers last time and ran a good race to be beaten narrowly into fifth in a five-way photo finish. That was from stall 15 and he didn't get a clear run up the straight.
He did carry his head a touch high but when he got between horses late on he was running on and he's lightly raced with a good draw now in stall six. It's a weaker race here and there were some decent horses around him for the grade last time.
