Fran Berry is at Limerick on Wednesday evening for RacingTV and he has four selections in Ireland on Wednesday from that track and from Gowran.
This is a competitive race and I’m sure we’ll see a lot of winners come out of it. But THAMES RIVER created a big impression on me when he won on his second start at Dundalk in October. He’s a half-brother to Barney Roy and appreciated stepping up to a mile on his second start. He was green and raw and has the scope to improve physically and mentally, but a mark of 85 to start off looks lenient. It’s his first run on grass and given the nature of the race we’ll back him each-way.
The four-year-old maiden looks another tight heat but I do like the look of LIQUID LUCK at 4/1. He created a favourable impression on his only start at Dundalk over 10 furlongs in October, when he was second to Hazel Bay. The form has a decent look in the context of this race and the drop back in trip shouldn’t be a problem for this son of Bated Breath.
I’m at the track at Limerick on Wednesday on my own for RacingTV and I’m looking forward to getting out of the house! It’s good racing and I like the look of REDDIAC each-way for Henry de Bromhead in the mile handicap at 6.35. He was outpaced at Leopardstown last week and only got into top gear going to the furlong pole and got quite badly checked in his run. I’d say he would’ve been at least fourth, and though he might want a bit further he’ll come on for that and he’ll enjoy the ground, too, so he looks an each-way bet for Rachael Blackmore who had a winner the other day on the Flat.
The feature of the night is the Listed Martin Moloney Stakes at 7.05pm and the gelded Pondus is an interesting stable debutant for Joseph O’Brien. However, I want to take him on with SIMSIR who looks a good bet at 11/4. I saw him win at Cork on debut last September and he had a productive time out in Dubai where he won a handicap on his last start there in February. That was over 1m2f off 100 and I think he’ll be seen in a better light over 1m4f on Wednesday. He could develop into a Melbourne Cup horse for my money later in the year.
