The straight course is already good ground at Tipperary and with drying conditions I reckon it’ll be good all round come race time ahead of an eight-race card this afternoon.
I’ve two bets, starting with GRAMMATA in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at 1.05.
There are quite a few live ones in here, but if Grammata is going to win a maiden it’s today on these sort of conditions and at 5/1 (General) the Twilight Son filly is worth an each-way bet.
She has to reverse last-time out form with Jessie Harrington’s Provocateuse, but she had valid excuses the last day as, not only was the ground against her, but she got upset in the gates, too.
Continually pushed wide throughout, she had a horrible trip and if you go back to her first three runs, at the Curragh, in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and a Listed race at Cork, she’s the form horse in the race.
She has to get back to that level of form, but the drying conditions can help her do so and for all that Harrington’s horse has the scope to improve from her first run I thought she’d be better over further.
This is a dead flat five and should suit Grammata, who looks the each-way play considering today’s test at the prices.
I also like the look of DARK DESIGN at 10/1 (General) in the Junction Apprentice Handicap (3.05).
The favourite, Rockview Empress, was very impressive last week at Navan but I don’t feel she offers much value, in the context of this race, under a penalty and the one to take her on with is Dark Design.
Trained by Joe Murphy, he’s ridden by Scott McCullagh who is still very good value in this type of race where he can ride off a heavier weight.
This horse ran very well first time out at Roscommon where he was third and then he had a horrible trip at Naas next time.
He won at Limerick off the same mark he runs off today and he looked like he was going to be involved at Gowran last time at the two pole but the very testing ground caught him out in the end.
Wide draws were winning at this track yesterday and stall 17 looks the type of place you want to be, so with the ground drying and the cheekpieces on he’s worth a bet at 10s.
